I was recently admitted to Tufts Post-bac program for 2012 and was surprised how little recent information was available on these threads.

Are there any current or former students that could shed some light on the pros and cons of the program?

Any info is appreciated!

Thanks

Congratulations on your acceptance! I was also just accepted to the Tufts Post-bac program for 2012 and am scheduled to start in May, though I am going to see if I can defer for a year to get more experience and to save up some money working at a local hospital where I just accepted a position to work as an Applications Analyst - it's an expensive program, and I would definitely like the financial backing to survive the schooling while not having to work very many hours. If that is not possible, I'm going straight in and hoping for the best financially - this is not an opportunity that I am going to miss. The acceptance rates to the program itself each application period are 20%-30%, with the prerequisite of 3.2 GPA during undergraduate, so it is a competitive program - you were accepted because they believe you will have success in the program.

The program has linkages with two naturopathy/osteopathy schools, and has about a 90% acceptance rate for graduates in the areas of medical school, physician assistant programs, nurse practitioner programs, dental, and veterinary school. I am also having trouble finding information, but am hoping that there are replies to this thread that will be helpful to both of us.

I know the advising is incredible, and that also there is access to the prestigious university assets, I read a thread about students organizing trips to Haiti and MIssissippi for experience volunteering with patient care, funded largely by the university itself. Any experience like this bolsters applications enormously, I am unsure of how accessible resources such as this are at other Post-Bacc programs. I admittedly only applied to this one, largely because I wanted something structured with high acceptance rates, and I do not want to move out of the Boston area, at least not at this point for Post-Bacc studies.

Not sure if this helps, hopefully we will get other replies to this thread.

Cheers!

Congrats to you as well! Tufts reputation in the medical world is big-time and all the things you just mentioned are certainly reasons to go there. I'm not from Boston but being there gives you the opportunity to volunteer at so many different hospitals which is part of the reason I was initially attracted to the program.

I'm hoping we can get some students' opinions about the program and the things we may not find on the website. Post-bac life, good places to live, do the post-bacs tend to bond...etc.

Feel free to PM me and good luck with your decisions!

I'm actually not too sure about any linkages with naturopathy programs. According to the program's website, "We offer linkage programs with the Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston University School of Medicine, and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine." http://uss.tufts.edu/undergradEducation/academics/postbac/linkage_joint.asp
