Tufts vs NYU

NYU:

Pros: great facilities, big classes (go to UofI-Urbana/Champaign....used to big campus), NY🙂
Cons: price, heard NYU lacks stable fulltime staff, NY🙁

Tufts:

Pros: great clinical reputation, committed staff, also have a large class (though smaller than NYU)
Cons: construction through D1 (dunno if this would be a problem)

What are your thoughts??? What am i overlooking?

EDIT: I'm also a die-hard Yankees fan from Chicago (dont ask why...i just am). I look forward to this debate...

one pro I might have on Tufts over NYU would be

Boston: concentrated with students (undergrad/grad)

This might make a very academically competitive environment, and I'd like to think this is an edge.

Reputation wise... both schools are excellent

I'm also a die-hard Yankees fan from Chicago (dont ask why...

ask...? does anyone really need to? just another case of a sellout fan, with absolutely no loyalty to their home team, hoping on the Yankees bandwagon. 🙂

I agree with Boston being a great town.

In terms of construction, yes, it will probably be annoying, but honestly, what school is not doing to do some construction at some point of the 4 years we will be there. At least you know they got the money and the need to do that.

Tufts: Great reputation in the area, better than Harvard since Harvard is research. NYU, well, there is Columbia too.

Personally, Im going to Tufts. Im from NY and if you are so into sports, I think you will like the whole Boston sports fan culture...NYU is nothing compared to Boston!

And oh, If I were you, I wouldnt drive a car with a Yankee sticker around Boston during baseball season... 🙂

Reputation wise... both schools are excellent

Tufts has a much better reputation among virtually all the practicing dentists I have ever met when compared to NYU. Whether this reputation manifests in actualized truth, I can't personally confirm one way or the other. Ask some of the dentists you know for their opinion on working with NYU grads, because NYU has the reputation of being a dental mill for taking on more students than their clinic can physically hold.

I've been around Tufts and talked to faculty members there so I can tell you their facilities are top notch. You will get a well rounded education there. I have not been to NYU but I've passed through the area that the whole medical complex is located. Me and my brother were invited by one of his friends once to stay at the dorm since he was a medical student at the time. The area that NYU is in is very nice and convenient. Both Tufts and NYU are urban campuses neither requires car to get around. NYU does to a lot of research. I remember seeing stats for the NYU medical research a while back (10+ yrs ago) that according to the NIH (National Institute of Health) they are up there in research funding I'm sure there is some spill over to the dental side. You can't go wrong with either one but I favor Tufts because it has a stronger curriculum.

It's not an issue if you are willing to pay $$$$$$$ for parking at the garages.

just follow your gut...I mean Tufts and NYU are both great schools...in terms of $$$$, both are expensive than state schools.......so maybe you have to choose with your personal preferences! good luck!

how does tufts have better facilities than nyu? i thought nyu had the latest technology. i doubt tufts is better when it comes to clinical training. reputation wise, yes, tufts probably takes the win.

I didn't say better than NYU. I said it had very up to date facilities. The comment was meant to stress the whole package that you get from Tufts. I'm sure NYU has cutting edge facilities but that is only one aspect of the school.
