I am seriously, seriously considering both schools. Lets just say you had to hypothetically choose between the 2 dental schoolswhich would you choose? Im not sure.

My deal is that i live in NY and had a dream i would become a DDS, while Tufts is DMD. But i still like tufts. Ive visited both schools and think they are great, which would you choose/is a better dental school and why? Thanks for the help.

Holy crap, you would make your decision based on DDS vs DMD? Wow. I interviewed at Tufts and know a few students there. My impressions are that it is a very nice school- and very, very expensive, but then again so is NYU. Smaller classes @ Tufts. Personally I'd take Tufts, but then again I love Boston.

i hope you know there is no difference in the profession between DDS and DMD.

+1 for tufts!

Can a DMD advertise as DDS. I know its not a big deal and they are the same thing, but i ask because i plan to work in NY and all 4 schools in NY give DDS and most people quickly associate DDS with dentist in NY. Therefore, on a business level I would prefer the title of DDS over DMD. Is it possible to change it, or just use it in phone book and in advertisements. Thanks

First, there's no difference between DDS and DMD. At the end of the day, you're still a dentist. DMD - translates as Dentariae Medicinae Doctorae in latin or otherwise known as Doctor of Dental Medicine.

I was a graduate of Tufts Dental. It is a great school for clinical experience! You have the opportunity to work with great clinical instructors. NYU and Tufts are both expensive... I felt better clinically prepared at Tufts! Dental school in general is a difficult journey... but it's well worth it when you love what you do! Good luck!

Tufts is a better school. The class is smaller and they are expanding their building with an additional 5 floors this will give them more chairs so that students will not have to struggle as much to get time for chairs. Both schools are pricey. I am currently attending Buffalo. Less spendy and get my own chair for the 3rd and 4th years.

Pick Tufts. I am in my 4th year, and have found my Tufts expirence to be outstanding. When the construction is finished it is going to be a top notch facility. You will find you get a very strong clinical background, and you will be strong at dealing with medically compromised patients.

No, of course you cannot advertise yourself as having earned a degree that you do not have. As others have stated, there is no practical difference between the two degrees at all. That being said, you can only advertise what you actually earned.

NYU has the most diverse patient pool in the country and the most number of patients coming in every day! So you'll get plenty of dental training here. The faculties here are amazing and the facilities here are top notch (11 floors of amazing dental facilities). NYU ranked 4th in the NIH funding in 2007 so it is also very strong with the research programs. We have amazing outreach programs and we are located in amazng NYC!!! It does get very competitive here with 230 students our first year and 330 in our second year but we all help each other out and unlike what everyone else says the school doesn't weed out its students.

I would say Tufts...Although I did not go to either schools, but I have to say the NYU in general might not have a great reputation in dental field from my own experience. I also practice in NY metro area; there have been a few instances where the owner dentists I worked for would prefer not to hire NYU graduates as their associates. The first time I thought it was a single incidence. But after I see this a couple more times at different offices, I realize maybe there may be something out there. I would suggest you to speak to some dentists in your area to get a broader sense of the reputation of both schools. But either way, congratulation on getting accepted into dental schools.
