Sup all,

I was recently accepted into the Tufts and UMDNJ MBS programs. I am not sure which I should go to in order to improve my chances for dental school. Tufts is a nice school and in a good location, but I haven't seen dentistry specific classes in the curriculum which UMDNJ offers. The only other thing I care about is completing the program in a year, and it seems like it can be done at both these places.

Could anyone give some input on where they would go (not taking location into consideration) ?

Thanks

I heard many good success story from UMDNJ but never heard of Tufts. but i doubt tufts has a bad program. One benefit of going to UMDNJ (if you are going to the one in newark) is that you are going to be able to take some classes that has "oral" or "dental" in the course name. if i were you, i would rather look at the costs and the location than the reputation.

Tufts is a true hardcore smp. You take 6 medical school courses and are graded using the same medical school curve. You are essentially doing medical school to prove you can do medical school.

UMDNJ is a psuedo smp. You are not really required to take medical courses. Overall, UMDNJ seems less rigorous than tufts.

broseidon Congratulations on your getting into these programs ! Both are my dream program/DS .

Can you please share your experiences (your stats too) in applying to these programs ? Which schools did you apply ?

I'd greatly appreciate your help !

what about one of UMDNJ's other branches like RJWS - would you still recommend that over tufts?

I am going to start UMDNJ MBS program in Newark, NJ in september.
To be honest, I dont think it is that competetive to get into. The requirement documents are your transcript, either DAT or GRE score, two letters of rec, and a personal statement(with no char limit). The deadline for application was June 1st, but then on June 1st, they extended the deadline to June 15th. So i assume they wanted more students. I sent my application on May 29th and got acceptance in about a month or so. My GPA is sub 3.0 with Economics major + biological science minor and got AA23 TS25 PAT23. and i had pretty crappy LORs

UMDNJ has three different branches with the same masters program called graduate school of biomedical sciences. The dental school is in Newark so if you go to the one in Newark, you will be able to take some dental courses. The one associated with Robert Wood Johnson Hospital is in New Brunswick and you will be able to take some courses with medical students. There is another one in Stratford or something, but i dont even know where that place is. lol

Sup bro, I just wanted to clarify that these are masters programs. Anyway, my stats were about a 3.3 overall and 3.1 science and 22/22/17 DAT, 790/780/4 GRE. I've applied to like 20 dental schools and am going to do this masters while I wait for my dental school applications to unfold. As you can see, my weakness is in my GPA which is why I would like to do this program.

By the way, I believe I am going to choose Tufts for now because of the closer location and intensity. I wish Tufts had the same agreement with their dental school as they do with their med school where top 25% from the MBS program get a guaranteed interview...oh well.
