Is anyone attending med school with an undergrad loan on your back?! As we all med schools cost a fortune and will be relying only on financial aid for tuition. I am in this position and wonder if it is a good idea to add more to my debt with med school loans.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

the cost of 4 years of undergraduate school pales in comparison to medical school. i really wouldn't worry about it.
Not true. Resident tuition at most state med schools is less than undergrad tuition at most private schools.

Doesn't change the advice to OP though.

I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm in the same position you are in. How much can you really control this? So why worry about it?

If you can minimize your undergraduate loans in any way, do that, but work on keeping your GPA and MCAT up...who knows, you might even get scholarships for medical schools, epecially state schools or cheaper schools in general.

Don't worry, man. Someday you'll be making mega bank as a $Doctor$ so just roll with it for a few years.

I currently have about 12k in undergrad loans. Luckily I'm about to have all my perkins loans (about 5k) canceled due to teaching in a critical shortage area for so long.

I figure med school loans are going to be a lot more than that, so I don't worry too much. However, if I had the 35k x 4 that some people have coming out of undergrad I might be a bit more concerned.

What? Are you asking if adding more debt is a good idea for the purpose of paying for med school tuition? How else are you planning on paying for med school?

I have yet to decide between:

I'm $100,000 in debt from undergrad 👎

I feel ya

I'm at an in-state school. I take out 45k/year.

I have been out of undergrad so long that I only have $6K of undergrad left to pay back. However, other debts (credit cards, car loan, home equity loan) ... well, not so good... 🙁

Hi everyone my tution plus room and board for my first year as undergrad is $22,000x4 $88,000. I will be gitting like $5,000 a year for a pell grant so if i get the rest through loans like $68,000 whats the process like for getting more loans for med-school of like $120,000 for touro university which only grants D.O's. For getting the loans for med-school what basis do loan companys go off of, like your cradit score or for just getting accapted to a med-school.

Thank you all for any advice.
