Tulane Acceptable Range

So I buckled down and asked. They said they expect AR movement on May 15. Do you know if this is a bad sign? For some reason I was expecting a lot of movement on Mar 15.. though I can't for the life of me figure out how I came up with that date. Does it ring any bells? I know they don't rank the AR list, but if they told me May 15 and in fact my recollection of Mar 15 is actually correct, then maybe there is some sort of ranking order to this madness (me of course being towards the lower end of the ranking order..)

Wait, Samoa--you go to Tulane but you said you're moving to another coast next year? Are you fourth year or something? That's so sad.. we won't be able to buy you rounds of drinks (and in my case, beignets). =(
 
I believe Mar 15th is the date that non rolling schools give out their acceptances and rolling schools with waitlists released ranked data to students if they so desire. Not sure if this date has anything to do with Tulane though. By the way shpamme, i think i had a dream one time that you got in like a month ago (i had the dream a month ago). i guess you kno you spend too much time on SDN when SDN starts creeping into your dreams lol
 
May 15th is the norm - b/c isn't that the date/around the date that applicants have to withdraw their acceptances if they have multiple acceptances? So tons of spots open up, and movement off the Acceptance Range begins.
 
Also some schools will have minor waitlist movement in August and throughout the summer. A student who was about to attend my SMP withdrew from our program because med school had admitted her last minute off the waitlist. Keep your hopes up and Ill keep my fingers crossed
 
Anyone know what the last day for interviews is? I have heard March 9, but not sure.

I dreamed that I got in the day before I was accepted at Tulane! Dreams mean something! Shpamme I TOLD you you have nothing to worry about. 😀 👍 But good :luck: anyways! 😛

I've heard of people coming off the waitlist here at Tulane in July and even as late as August.

although i am still awaiting decision (post interview), may i suggest my FAVORITE place....the bulldog...on magazine. they have 50+ beers on tap. wednesday night is pint night (you get to take keep your decorative bulldog pint glass...they have a new glass design every few weeks). and their new patio is pretty fabulous as well!

...it doesn't seem so exciting in print, but i'll swear by it -- it's been my favorite place since 2001!!! 🙂

This is how it works pretty much everywhere. . . as people get off waitlists at a school they liked more they drop their spot somewhere else which opens up a spot at that school and they take someone off the waitlist . . . etc. I've heard of people getting called days before orientation starts . . . though I think the movement significantly decreases as the summer wears on and less people are willing to change plans who are on a waitlist but holding an acceptance somewhere else.

what do you guys think of lafittes place? feels like its straight out of pirates of the carribean. I love how you can just walk around town with a cocktail in hand and just barhop til your hearts content

i'm on TU's AR list as well. also waiting on a couple other schools. all this crap sucks. i just wanna know so *I* can make a decision, damnit!!!
 
Hey so I heard that LSU-NO school of med is right across the street from tulane? You guys party together often?

allow me to amend that....i just found out today that i was accepted at tulane (but you all probably already know that....this is the THIRD tulane thread i have posted on in the past 5 minutes!)

anyway....drinks at the bulldog...it's totally on!
 
Congrats Jennifermov and Rnp614! Definitely happy for you. Rnp, thanks for the encouragement! I have yet to have "the dream" but I'm hoping.. =)
I'm down with stomach flu so I'm gonna be posting less for the next week I think, but hope all is well guys!

Any news about the waitlist or how many people have sent in deposits?
 
I don't know how much waitlist movement there is in general. I know 3 letters went out last week.. one of which was to someone in one of my classes (i'm in a Tulane master program btw)... But 3 is not very many
 
I regretably withdrew my acceptance last week🙁 🙁 Hope that helps. Good luck to you guys, what a fun school!:hardy:
 
ok, I'm another waitlister, sent in a May "love letter" and update and if we gotta wait we might as well see if anyhting new has been heard.

It is hard for me to tell exactly when this was posted but if it was recent it is completely wrong.

Tulane has usually handed out 300 acceptances by Feb or March. Then they wait for many of those to withdraw and they then take a few people off the waitlist. Last year was very different in that not as many people as they expected withdrew. Instead of telling 20 people that they really didn't have a spot they just increased the class (which almost got them in serious trouble with the LCME) and now they are approved to teach 170 students. I will tell you that in most years past the number off of the waitlist has been less than the fingers on my hands. But there is still a chance and I think reminding them of who you are will go a long way.

No news, officially. However, to coallate the information here, two other threads (a recent tulane waitlist thread, and the allopathic class thread):

The waitlist seems to be expecting movement of up to 50 people, and the cause of this has been speculated as New Orleans being slow to rebound/prepare for further disasters. Therefore, more people withdrawing. At the same time, that means that the accepted pool this year would have more multiple acceptances.
 
Does anyone know when Tulane's wait list has historically started moving?
 
I called today and the lady sid that they haven't invited anyone off yet, sounded busy and exasperated and said that people were still declining spots so I got the impression there will be more movement than in years past but No, I don't know when it historically begins
 
Me too. It's one of the only places in the south that has a strong gay community. Even if half the community now commutes from Baton Rouge. I'd be happy and honoured to be there.

I emailed Beckman. At this point, the class is full with deposit-paid people. Apparently, there is potentially a small chance - i.e. one or two late in the summer, if enough people drop. I'm not sure if that means they took people off the waitlist. However, the advice was to move on to 'Plan B'.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Dr. Beckman is pretty fast at responding to emails.

damn...thats a shame...I was getting my hopes up with all these rumors of fifty coming off the list.
 
Just bumping some info for everybody.. They have over accepted their class by alot.. More than 100 people (assuming they were hoping for a 175 size class) what that's gonna do for the class next year I'm interested to see... But as far as us I think there's no hope here. 🙁
 
Wow...Thats a lot of acceptances.

I have heard that 190 people accepted their acceptance with deposits but things could have changed by now.

I have moved ahead and decided to attend the Pharmacology Masters program. I think you can still apply to that for a couple more days but you would have to hurry. Anyone with any news?

don't forget -- how many they accept doesn't translate into how many matriculate..... i know the original email list had a little over 300 people on it, but that way before may 15th. that number has probably dwindled down quite a bit.

i turned in my withdrawal letter on friday, so if their class ISN'T overbooked, then one more spot just opened up....
 
Is the admissions atmosphere a little better for waitlisted re-apps generally who have improved to some degree at TUlane.
 
I think its pretty much the case that there wont be any movement this year from Dr Beckman

really? wow! they must be stressing right now...this will make the 2nd year in a row they have over-filled their class!
