I've just been accepted to Tulane under the Human Genetics Masters Program. I understand that the school has a pharmacology masters as well. Has anyone taken the genetics program? Also, do you think the one year genetics program would be looked upon favorably by medical school committees just as much as pharmacology? I have a large interest in genetics, so the course is very appealing, but my true goal is still medical school. Should I accept here or opt for a school where I am put in more clinical conditions?

any info would help!
thanks!

has anyone does this program? does it help for getting into med school? and how does it compare to the pharm program

I looked into this program too, i think its weakness as far as getting you into med school, would be you dont take any courses with the med students or med school. I think the only programs that do at tulane is the ACP and Pharmacology program. hope this helps

Hey. My roommate was in the exact same boat as you last year. She originally applied to med school and was rejected so she opted to do the Human Genetic Masters program at Tulane. She reapplied for med school at Tulane and was waitlisted but she made it off the waitlist and was accepted into Tulane med school about a month ago. It's not uncommon for people do the genetics program and apply for med school again. According to my roommate, a LOT of the students in the Human Genetics Masters program are med school rejects who are planning to reapply for med school. If you're interested in genetics I say go for it. It has helped some people get into med school. It's no guarantee of course. My roommate was waitlisted when she reapplied for med school and she was worried she wouldn't get in. But if that's where your interests are then you should pursue it. It'll be easier to get good grades if you're studying something you're interested in.
