Hey guys,

I got into Tulane about a month ago and I'm really excited. I've been looking around at places to live and was wondering if anyone knows anything about Metairie.

Is it a good place to live?

Some students do live in Metairie, but the vast majority live Uptown. Especially with having to be in class by 8 in the first semester, the closer you are, the better. Then again, it's cheaper in Metairie (not that Uptown is expensive by any means). I live near the undergrad campus, which I think it's a good spot.

metairie's an option if you stay on Lake Avenue, i lived there for a semester ... that's the border of jefferson parish and orleans parish, and there are nice apartments there and it's a 6 mile drive to campus. 20 min in traffic, 12-15 without traffic. there's so much darn construction that even coming from uptown takes close to 15 minutes.

i live in the fountainbleu neighborhood, just north of uptown and next to midcity, it's 2.5 miles from school, 1.5 miles to the Reilly center and pretty safe.

but hawaiin is right, uptown is probably the best bet. lots of options, decently close to school, close to Reilly, and not too pricey unless you're on the undergrad campus, then they hike up the rent a bit, but it's still reasonable.

I don't trust this hawaiian bruin guy...he's pretty sketchy! Nah, uptown is good. Reilly is only a bikeride away and that was the biggest deciding factor on where to live. Its hard enough motivating yourself to work out...its that much easier to work out if the access is there.

I live uptown, about 10 minutes from the Reily center. I have no complaints about the location, although it's a longer drive to school than I'd like. But there's no one on the road before 7:15, so it's not too bad.

If you have any interest in fitness, the Reily center is pretty much the only decent place to workout. None of the major fitness chains will come anywhere near this city. And we need them badly, with all this great food and nightlife. :laugh:

class of 2008 here too.

I just looked at a place called the American Can Company. Its a warehouse appartment. I came on a saturday and couldnt get a leasgin agent but i spoke to a resident who said it was about a $1 a square foot. So a nice two beedroom 1200 sq aptts would only be 600 a month. But you have to like the varnished concreter floor and high celing style.

Saw the saulet as well...more expensive i think. 1400 a month for a nice two bedroom. But it really is nice. www.saulet.com

DO the guys who go to tulane aready have any input about these places? I dont know if they are too nice for a med student or not. Im gonna be 100% loans so....im not sure what i can afford.

I would love to have a roomate though..its so much cheaper and keeps your mind on school or at least things school related.

I'll be your roommate, if I get accepted that is. 🙂
