hi guys, im trying to figure out what our schedules will look like next year. i looked at the schedule up on the internet (your schedule at baylor) and it looks like it must have been shuffled around since youre at baylor (to have the lectures in the afternoon, and the foundations course in the morning). and the curriculum description says foundations only meets a couple afternoons a week, but you guys seem to have it every day! are your schedules particularly packed because of baylor, and because you guys are making up for lost hurricane time? do you know what i can expect our schedules to look like as of next year? cause im looking at other schools that are in class from 9-12. it's hard to imagine being in class from 9-5 and still getting time to do work. how does it work?

also, im wondering if all the programs that used to be offered (international electives, etc.) are still offered post-hurricane. the admissions office hasn't really updated any info on the website, so im still going off of the old handbooks and info on the website, which are impressive, but i need to know that all of these resources and programs still exist. do you guys have any idea?

also, whats up with the som forum, it seems to be harboring a virus, thats why i had to post here..

thanks.

ya and when's orientation?

if all else fails. i'm gonna be in europe all summer so looking for a place will not be feasible. if you find a good place let me know, i'm down to ditch the deming idea at a moment's notice.

I'm currently a T2, so I'll try to give you my impression of the schedule. In the fall T1's have anatomy, histology, cell bio, and Foundations. Generally anatomy class/lab was 3 or 4 days a week in the morning, depending on the block. Histo and cell bio classes were on tues/thurs morning and maybe some in the afternoon on MWF i think. Foundations was scheduled for twice a week in the afternoons, but it's a special class. It's usually on the official schedule a lot, but most of that is just time set aside for you to use any way you want. So you could schedule to meet with your preceptor, do service learning, medical interviewing, or study during that time. It's very flexible.

In the spring you have physio, neuro, biochem, and more Foundations. I don't know why FiM shows up so much on the schedule for T1's this year, but my guess is that they really aren't doing anything during that time. Last spring (when I was a T1), we had all of the classes in the morning and usually our afternoons were free to do what we wanted. Because of being at Baylor, most of the class times have had to be moved to the afternoon. I've heard rumors that they might decide to keep it that way in the fall, but I don't think the decision has been made yet.

So to sum it up, most of the blocked out times you see on the schedule for FiM are probably not actual classes. Also, most classes aren't required, so that's time you can spend studying if you feel you learn better that way. I haven't been to a class in 2 months! I think most people feel that they have enough time to get the work done.

btw, the forum is up again

I'm a T1. All those Foundations sessions just mean that time in the morning is allotted for Foundations. Out real foundations schedule is sent to us weekly by the program director. This year all we've had are weekly Nutrition lecture around lunch time and standardized patient sessions (6).

I have heard that we will have electives next year, but we have not received any official info from the administration.
