tulane turnaround time & acceptance range

whoa! so i interviewed this month, and the acceptance range letter i got was dated 5 days after my interview. that's the speediest response ever. makes me think that every person who interviewed got the same letter!

any info on the acceptance range would be very helpful. i read on here that there are two waitlists, an early and a late, and that you are more likely to get in if you interviewed early. is that true or just a nasty sdn rumor? hopefully not, b/c i already feel penalized for interviewing at a time when i couldn't get an outright acceptance. i understand a LOT of people are in their acceptance range. does anyone have any idea how many? thanks 🙂

p.s. i LOVED tulane when i was there! everyone seemed so laid back and happy.

The early, late waitlist is a rumor. They only have 1 waitlist and it is huge. I was in contact with Dr. Pisano last year about the waitlist and he said that my committee ranking was great and I was one of the most acceptable candidates. I don't believe a word they say. I never got in after repeated letters, etc. I t turned out to be good for me though because I have had the opportunity to interview at many great schools and am going to my top choice. They said that usually about half of the students are from the waitlist. That is only about 60-80 people out of about 400 or more they put on the list. It's a great school, just not very candid about the admissions process. Good luck, lola, we're rooting for you.😀 😀 😀

The early/late waitlist rumor started with me. I had talked to my pre-med advisor at Tulane after I got waitlisted back in September and that was her reply to me, that being on the "early waitlist" was better and I had a good chance of coming off. How accurate that information is, is debatable. I don't really think there are two separate waitlists. They obviously have to throw you in the waitlist pile in some manner. Maybe when they go to look for people to pull off the waitlist, they just start back with the bunch from September and work their way through. Maybe they group you by scores. Who knows. However, Tulane is one of those schools that loves to be adored, so don't feel shy about kissing their butts. This is New Orleans and that is the way things work here. Don't be shy about going right to Pisano.

anyone else with any inside scoop? is it possible to call and find out your committee ranking at some point?
it seems like gtown in that you have to beg to get in... and even then you will likely not get in. i would write to them saying they're my first choice, but there is no way i can do that unless i get rejected from all the uc's.

The packet handed out on interview day talks about a "priority rating" that is assigned to each candidate. Supposedly, five different reviewers rate each app with a numerical score of 1-10. The average of the five scores = your priority rating. The packet goes on to say that to be placed in the acceptable pool means your rating is a 6 or better.

Beats the heck out of me how the adcom plucks people off the waitlist when there are literally hundreds of people packed into such a small score range.

When I was there, they said it wasn't really a ranked waitlist. Even though people have a rating, they don't order people like that. Dean Pisano basically said that they'll pick and choose off the waitlist to maintain their diverse class--they won't just take the top however many people.
