Turned Down A Waitlist

Do you plan to apply there again? If so, why not wait and see what happened? Why apply there in the first place?
It was accidental. I signed it but didn't mail it. I was away at the time and told a friend to check the waitlist box and mail it. Apparently he checked the wrong one, so here I am. It was a dumb and unfortunate series of events, of which I am partly to blame.
But worse case scenario, am I blackballed only there, or at all D.O. schools?

😕 I'm confused. In your 1st post you said you did it on purpose because the waitlist was a waste of time that late in the cycle, then later you said it was a mistake because your friend checked the wrong box.
I was wondering the same thing. Not to mention, why you would let someone else fill out and send in the form, if that's the way it went down. Either way, I don't think it matters much at other schools, it might at that school though.
Even if you reapply at that school, you can just say you had an opportunity that came up and you had to make a decision about what you wanted to do at that point in time, so you couldn't chance not taking advantage of the opportunity AND not getting off of the waitlist... Now you are just taxed with finding an "opportunity" that will fit the bill. 😉
For what it's worth, I had a friend that got into an MD school two cycles ago. He turned the admission down so he could reapply again to try to get into a better program.
When he reapplied, he applied to that same program again (it was our instate undergrad institution), and got accepted again within 3 weeks of his interview. Turned them down again to go to to Johns Hopkins instead.

[sarcasm]Sounds like he was lacking good stats and EC's [/sarcasm]... This is a perfect example of an anecdote that clearly doesn't apply to the majority. Good for your friend though.

OP, I don't think you'll get a second chance at the school in question, but you should be fine at the other schools.
2 cycles ago i was on a waitlist late in the season when i got a great job that required a 1 year commitment- I sent an e-mail withdrawing from the school and explaining why i withdrew, only to find out a few weeks later that they never got the e-mail since they were calling to ACCEPT me!
Regardless I turned the acceptance down, applied the next year, received an interview (very early in their season) and was accepted in October.
I obviously wouldn't recommend doing what I did, and I'm sure some schools would be very pissed and it could hurt your chances, however I wanted to let you know in some cases (like mine) you will be ok- although I think you should probably make it clear to them why you withdrew and let them know you're applying again now, etc.
