Turning down Harvard, Because I just got my acceptance to
ITT Tech:laugh:

OOOO we are so going to get in trouble today for posting non-premed posts in the wrong forum.

Sorry moderators, I think Holiday cheer has taken our minds............................................................. Please forgive us.

I rejected Harvard pre-secondary 😀

OMG, ITT Tech is my dream school too...I finally find someone with the same interest as me 😀

My committee on admissions met last week and determined that Harvard's programs simply don't fit my needs at this time. I sent them a thin envelope with a gently worded rejection letter. I hope it doesn't ruin their Christmas holidays...

Come on you didn't even include a box of napkins? They must be crying so hard about your rejection letter 😉

For those of you who have placed Harvard on your waitlist, make sure you remind them it is an "active" waitlist.

For some reason, schools take it less personally and stay hopeful when you put the two words together 😉

I thought about requesting a "post-secondary fee" from Harvard in order to maintain them on my waitlist, but I really have so many qualified applicant schools this year that I just didn't want to string them along.

there's a girl in my class who turned down harvard (and hopkins and ucsf and some other high-ranked schools) for a full-ride merit scholarship to umich.

I rejected the mere concept of applying to Harvard.

I think its weird that there is so little Harvard talk on here. It doesn't seem like its anyone's dream school and I don't hear anything about interviews or when is Harvard sending ****... its odd isn't it? Do any Harvard students use SDN?

Harvard is my dream school and not just b/c of the reputation (although that certainly is a significant factor). I like the way in which PBL and pass/fail policies promote an atmosphere of cooperation between the students. Also since I am hardcore into politics, I love the fact that you can pursue an MD and a master's in public policy from the Kennedy School.

Of course, the research facilities are superb and Harvard has a great reputation for residency spots.

to answer dr. kevin's post,

yes a lot of harvard students use sdn. but most of them (at least the ones i know) tend to fly under the radar and don't really advertise that they're from harvard, b/c it often paints a big target on their backs. i think the name elicits a pretty negative response in a lot of people (along with a strong positive response in some people), and generally it's too much of a pain to deal with either, or to be judged based on some random association.

not that i go there or anything 😉

i think harvard hst is my first choice. after that, it's kind of a tossup. i know this would be blasphemous in an interview, but all the other top schools seem kinda the same to me 😀 i think it's mainly just about location and where you want to be.

so what does it take to get into Harvard besides a 4.0 GPA, 45 MCAT, Ph.D in Biology, CEO of a hospital, being a soap star, and having high connections?

You have to be a member of the URM too 😱...so I guess many of us don't stand a chance

There's a bunch of people here who turned down Harvard, 2 of which are MD/PhDs. Typically, they turned them down for a partial or no scholarship, except for the MD/PhDs where it doesn't matter. These people just got a bad vibe from the big H for a number of reasons.

Still, just wanted to point out, it's not a strict pecking order among med schools. 🙂

I know of 3 students from my school that declined Harvard interviews last year. The price tag, East Coast culture, weather, and that fact that most good schools offer pretty much the same education (pbl...etc.) were the primary reasons.

I enjoyed my visit to Harvard. Nice group of ppl. HMS seems more like a museum than a school.
