Hey guys i recieved the orientation package abt a week ago and i just wanted to know if i should purchase the following(not sure if they are useful).....LEA survival guide,pocket podiatrics and foot notes part 1. Also does anyone know the author and edition of the pocket podiatrics, i'm planning on searching for it online. Thank you in advance

I strongly recommend Foot Notes. This is the only resource that compiles the first two years of TUSPM's content into charts. While it is not a replacement for class notes, it is great when exams are coming around and you want to highlight the most important information. Also it comes in handy for part 1 boards. It's not a paperweight like USMLE First Aid.

LEA Survival Guide is optional. If you are a visual learner with anatomy, then it's useful. The course textbook is very cut and dry so its a useful supplement in that regard.

I would hold off on pocket podiatrics right now since you wont be in clinic for a bit. So spend your money elsewhere: scrubs, gloves, instruments, etc

It really comes down to what interests you have. Some clubs charge a nominal fee ($5-20), but it pays itself out if you attend their monthly lunches. There will be a "club fair" during orientation so you can meet the officers of each club.

Pocket Podiatrics is nice for those that like to carry resources on them to double check things. It is true that you may not fully use it until your 3rd or 4th year, but having it now is one less thing to worry about later. As far as the LEA study guide and Foot notes, that is pretty much as podpod said.

The first meeting for each club is open to everyone so you can go to their meetings (usually free lunch!) and check them out. Also during orientation there is a Club Presentation time, for lack of a better term, where you can walk around in a room and talk to members of each club. You can then sign up, pay dues, and ask any questions that you have.

I think I would have done just as well or better on boards part I simply using Pocket podiatrics in the place of USMLE first aid.... AND I'd be that much more prepared for clinic now!

EDIT: this post is half tongue in cheek, boards were just crazy and I don't know if I loved studying out of first aid. That's just me though.
