tutoring on application?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No, adcoms might think you want to become a professor instead of a dentist. I wouldn't put it.

is tutoring really going to look that bad? i was going to put it as an extracurricular activity...

I would put it on....shows that you are willing to help people (Eventhough you make money..but still!)

There's a pending shortage of dental professors as the baby boomers all retire - some schools actively pursue people with TA experience/ tutoring etc. This was specifically said to us at our NYU interview - "Many of you are here today because you expressed an interest in teaching or have TA experience".

Put it on your app.

I would definitely put it on your application. I don't think they would think you want to be a professor or teacher at all. Shows you know your stuff and are motivated enough to help others. All of my tutors have been med students.

where would you guys put TA experience on your app? if it wasnt paid...just credit

I think I put mine under the volunteer section - OK, I really don't remember. I did, however, mention it in my essay and got a LOR for the professor I was TA-ing for.

Actually, I was told by a dean of admissions that some dental schools are looking for students who might be interested in teaching. He said it can be a challenge to find full time professors because they may not make as much as dentists in private practice. I was encouraged to include my tutoring experience on my application because of this. Also, my pre-dent advisor says it looks good on an application because it shows you like to help others.

Of course it would help, use that ochem brain of yours man. Why would it be a bad thing that you have been tutoring outside of class? Shame on you.👍
