I guess I’m being obtuse again but I thought we were trying to have some credible foundation vs. possible spread of misinformation.

Did some research:

In a January 2021 video titled "Fauci lied to you AGAIN", Wheeler made incorrect claims about Anthony Fauci, COVID-19, and the effectiveness of face masks. FactCheck.orgdetermined that Wheeler had falsely claimed that Fauci "lied" to the American public about the pandemic, and that she misled about COVID-19 vaccination prioritization and distorted the findings of a scientific paper to claim that face masks do not need to be worn by healthy people.

On May 25, 2021, Wheeler premiered her podcast, The Liz Wheeler Show. In an episode posted on June 30, 2021, Wheeler lied that a "peer reviewed, scientific study showed that the COVID-19 vaccine causes two deaths for every three lives it saves." The video was flagged by Facebook as part of its efforts to combat misinformation, and PolitiFact found that the MDPI Vaccines journal, which had published the study, had posted a notice raising serious questions about it two days prior to the episode being uploaded. The notice called the study's conclusions a "misrepresentation of the data" and stated that the authors' assertion that the deaths were caused by vaccination efforts was "incorrect and distorted".

Great job. She made an observation that was her opinion. Your research, likely written by a democrat, does not invalidate the observation. There is nothing that needs investigation or a statement of fact vs fiction in her tweet. Simply her opinion, which I thought was interesting so I posted it. So, anyone with an opinion, you feel the need to find a gotcha moment so that you can decry that the opinion is invalid?
You keep making fun of the word obtuse and wearing it as a badge of honor that you have no idea what it means. It’s just a word. If you watched the movie Shawshank Redemption, you would know the word well.

The problem we all have, is when we have formed a strong opinion about someone, anything that persons says or does that is positive, we will tend to disbelieve, or think they are Insincere or lying. I get that.

But I have a question for you. Bari Weiss totally gets the criticism against Elon. So she asks the very important question to him. (Paraphrasing her). “Why are you who is wielding this immense power any better, or how can we be assured that your monopoly will be any better?”

I for one, LOVED his answer. Apparently you didn’t. He said “I am open to suggestions.”

So what could he have said for you to go “okay. That’s a good answer. Good job Elon.”

I agree. Let’s see how this plays out. I do not like how he is Willy-nillly banning people. That should bother everyone. But if you weren’t bothered by the shadow banning - you have NO RIGHT to say anything. You should stay out of the conversation.

BUT - my hope is that Elon turns Twitter into what he has commented on how it should be - transparent, with banning coming from community, not a single person. That is what he has stated as a goal.

We will see how it plays out. I do not have a Twitter account but I understand the power it wields. Yes, shadow banning was/is problematic and not fair. COVID was a weird time and whether anyone here acknowledges it or not, there were/are people who purposely spread misinformation for no reason aside from gaining an audience/getting clicks/getting money.

Whether Elon acknowledges it or not it’s problematic when he writes ‘prosecute Fauci’. Elon doesn’t appear to want a target on his back, and yet he’s perfectly fine doing that to Fauci. I wouldn’t want people knowing my location, but I’d never spend 44 billion on a social media site. Aside from SDN I don’t use social media at all. It’s the devils flatus.

Trump never wanted to take responsibility for the role he played in the white supremacists leaving their caves to join society (I.e. Charlottesville). I have similar concerns about Elon.

Oh, please. I don't want to get into both side-ism, but there were a lot of cave people in the BLM riots, too. And among the woke in general (let's not forget Antifa, and generally the four feet good two feet bad thinking among the woke coastal educated Democrats). The fact that they are more educated on average on the left doesn't make them more forgivable. Actually, less!

Remember Seattle, remember Minnesota, remember Portland. And, unlike the white supremacists and the Jan. 6 rioters, they went unpunished for months for their felonies, burning down (federal) buildings, harassing and attacking peaceful citizens etc. And still are committing (hate) crimes unpunished, in places like New York City, because Lady Justice is not blindfolded anymore, except over her right eye.

There is radicalism cooking on the left, too, for example in California, where some people are asking for $800K/person reparations for slavery, OR ELSE...! And there is active and visible discrimination about how the law is being applied against minorities and non-minorities, especially in blue states, and not only criminal law. That level of injustice will irritate even peaceful people.

And let's not forget the Pravda-level narratives in the mainstream media. There is continuous lying and hiding of facts. Just look at the current Twitter scandal, have you heard about it in any mainstream publication or on TV, except for the WSJ and Fox? Let's not mention the Hunter Biden scandal. They are trying to brainwash the country in a manner that would make the Soviets, the Chinese and other communists proud. Again, one wonders whether Tucker Carlson is a symptom or a reaction to all of these, an attempt to correct the imbalance.

What we see, on both sides, is a reaction. The question is what kind of society do we want to live in? One party wants to think they are the party of tolerance and of minorities, the other that they are the party of law and order, of the Constitution and of the middle class. Decent people would want all of these.

I mean in every society you will have radicals/extremists and for every event from one side ther can be an example of one from the other. I don’t think anybody has denied that. The problems seem to be amplified by voices from social media sites such as twitter. My issue is that the extremes from one side are coming from people who actually have political power, including a former president who was/is the leading voice on trying to find a way to overturn the government.

We can continue to compare some nobody posting crazy ideas to a Trump and claim it’s the same. Nobody can control what is posted or how people will react but we can at least try to prevent extremes by helping to at least find ways to tone down the rhetoric and false information/claims that’s out there.

Based on arguments here, I don’t believe anyone is going to convince or change anyone else’s political views but the divide in this country is real and we need to figure out a way to coexist. We don’t need to be friends but the actions people are taking these days to prove a point are becoming dangerous.

And if this were the true concern on the left, if their intentions were so pure, then we would hear about the Twitter scandal on every TV channel, the same way we heard about January 6. And yet, crickets!

Growing up in an authoritarian dictatorship, I can tell you that the type of censorship the left wants, where certain subjects are taboo for discussion or research, is not conducive to a free (as in freedom, not free beer) and democratic society. The same way one can see fascist undertones on the right, an objective observer can notice Marxist-communist ones on the left. Censorship is one of them.

Anyway, the problem in this country is that the echo chambers are so established that we are past talking with each other. We talk at each other, when we don't shout or scream or downright assault. I am also guilty of this, I admit. To me, anybody who thinks the problems are preponderently on one side, with one party, has been brainwashed and not worth the discussion anymore. I'm tired of all these people with confirmation biases, or just personal interests, who won't admit to them, and demonize the other side. That's exactly what all authoritarian societies do: dehumanize their political adversaries, which is exactly what the left has been trying to do with the white supremacist narrative (not just the right with the illegal migrant narrative).

All I can say is that neither party are on the side of light side of the Force, in Star Wars slang. They are both very much on the dark side (just look at all the hate). So one has to be extremely careful who one allows to influence one's thinking, especially if one is a registered democrat or republican, or tends to vote just with one party.

I’m just curious. When BLM protests/walks streets after George Floyd do you draw equivalence with white supremacists who rally because, well, #reasons? Are these two the same? Do we respond in the same manner emotionally as a country and treat these two events similarly?

As to those who broke the law, I said it at the time and I’ll say it again. They should be arrested. Somehow though I’m able to discern difference when people throw things at buildings and a white supremacist plows his car through a group of protestors, killing Heather Heyer and injuring others.

I guess I’m still asleep though.

Those “things” they are throwing are often Molotov cocktails to burn buildings (with no regard for the safety of who might be in those buildings) and frozen water bottles aimed at law enforcement officers with intent to injure. And people on both sides of the political fray have used cars as weapons, so I’m not sure why you’re singling out one incident and implying it is a one sided issue.
Seems disingenuous to me.

I honestly don't see a big difference between hating blacks and hating whites. Both are equally deplorable. Same when people break the law. All should be punished, equally, according to the law, not the personal politics of the prosecuting a$$hole. The fact that the (federal) government prosecutes people for hate crimes or riots only on one side speaks volumes.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe the systemic oppression narrative, not in this century, not in the blue states where I have lived. I think it's a very convenient personal choice to play the victim card and expect society to wipe one's butt. Candace Owens says it much better than I ever could, in "Blackout".

Being emotional is no better excuse to break the law than being drunk.

Oooof, 57% yes and it's almost closing. Bad poll to put up as a narcissist

But also a good poll to put up as a narcissist cause you can just ignore the result anyways

It's all about engagement right? He is just trying to get people to use the platform more and the people are begrudgingly and happily doing it.

I think he might actually want to step away from it because he can see that he isn't going to be able to fix it by making bombastic demands or whatever his 'management strategy' is and wanted to make it look like he is some proponent of democracy to soften the image of the authoritarian twitator that he has been projecting over the past week by banning journalists and college students who offended him.

A pretty decent read. Elon blocked this journalist on twitter btw lol

He needs to focus more on Tesla. Besides the cybertruck delays, their flagship Model S, while a nice car, is getting stale without a significant update in 10 years.

Agreed. I think he was planning to step down since he is tanking his bread and butter company and this allows him to rehabilitate his image and appear more ethical.

This makes sense, although seems risky to put up a poll that could swing in either direction. His actions at the company have been impulsive and erratic so basing his fate on a rando Twitter poll kinda seems on par with everything else.

I voted yes in the snoop dogg poll.

Yea, anyone who doesn’t agree with him will be kicked off or their votes will mean less. We’re watching how authoritarians think in live action.
Or something like that.

I feel like it is watching in real time how someone with immense power, who wanted and thought they would be a King Authur, instead is becoming Genghis Kang.

Give the man some credit. He may be looking for somebody trustworthy who could replace him.

Nobody in their right mind would enjoy running that asylum long-term.
I have and will.

He is a very impressive person - and I can’t imagine having this whole thing rest solely on your shoulders. He is good at getting smart people around him. I hope it works the same way with this.

He seems to be going in the wrong direction however.

And I'm sure a bunch of mysterious institutional-sized TSLA short-dated call buyers are about to get really "lucky" on this surprising "news"

This is funny.

But it also is not. It highlights the pettiness of most humans. I suspect Elon has voted mostly democrat (and he has said so).

Yet to try and insult him, people call him a Republican. Why is that an insult?

So if you are a democrat, and you want to appreciate a Republican, wouldn’t you be pleased with a Republican who voted mostly democrat?

It's an insult because the most recent sitting Republican president along with a great many others in the party didn't accept the results of the most recent national poll and then attempted a coup at the US Capital during what should have been a peaceful transfer of power.
I'm not a democrat so I can't really answer your second question honestly, but I will try. I am not pleased with a republican who mostly voted democrat because he isn't actually a republican, he is a shyster.

Maybe more Republicans should accept the results of elections? Blame the actual problem dude not the people making fun of the problem.

I bet if they started doing that these jokes wouldn't land as hard and people would stop. Something like 146 Republicans voted to overturn the 2020 election lol, and there were 291 R election deniers up for election in 2022 (thankfully most lost).

Who the hell is Jeff Tiedrich?

Lets look at what else this guy writes...Oh, it's another random nobody who has made a career of being permanently outraged and expressing himself through extreme vulgarity on Twitter every 15 minutes.

Why does anybody pay attention to these lunatics? Can you imagine living your life like this? Almost feel sorry for the guy. But nah. Nobody will make Jeff Tiedrich as miserable as Jeff Tiedrich makes himself, so it's pointless even responding to these clowns. You can't help them and you can't hurt them.

Republican could be an insult in the same way that woke could be an insult. I personally don’t think either terms are insults.

Am I taking crazy pills or is there not many democrats who have denied election results as well? I think you guys have been told it is only republicans and even worse you believe it. Check your sources and facts.

There hasn't been a democratic president who called a state election official and told him to "find" some extra votes. Like, bro, come on, you CANNOT try and both sides this one. I highly recommend that you stop being so disingenuous because seriously, you are really making yourself look bad.

Meh, point out a recent election denying Democrat and I'll call them out on it.

No hypocrisy here. Hanging chads was 22 years ago, and I see that as a more debatable position to stake out than what Kari Lake, Guilliani or the Kraken lady are putting out.

chris crocker crying GIF

I cannot comprehend the seemingly endless well of sympathy for him. He is wealthy beyond comprehension but that isn't enough, he wants to be popular so he posts edgelord crap to get a reaction. Then he literally bought Twitter to show how edgy he was but spin it as some sort of move to save mankind. But yea, poor him we need to let him do whatever he wants without comment. Too bad for all those Twitter employees fired by email with 0 notice right before Christmas Elon Musk’s Twitter lays off engineers days before Christmas. Poor poor Elon.

That takes the bite out of any response. I only ask for consistency. Even if elections are stolen you have to prove it if you are going to claim thievery. So unless you have hard proof, then it does no good to whine.

I would live with democrats winning every vote if they will just agree to reasonable voting requirements. Give an acceptable ID to verify and don't make mail in ballots so ripe for fraud. Voter ID is not racist

Hillary Clinton says, "Right-wing extremists already have a plan to literally steal the next presidential election, and they’re not making a secret of it.”
