TWO NEW Public Medical Schools in FLORIDA!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thats pretty cool.... a good state to live in if you want to go to med school

This brings the medical school count up to 8 in Florida, 6 allopathic (5 public, 1 private) and 2 osteopathic. I'm a UCF student and I'm so excited about how this is going to benefit medical care and medical education in the state. After these two schools open, I don't see why any qualified med school applicant in Florida won't be offered a space in at least one of the schools.

Go Florida!

In other medical school news MSUCOM is looking at building TWO new schools one in Oakland County and the other in Downriver Detroit. It's just in the idea phase but if that happened Michigan State would have FIVE medical schools in Michigan.

Michigan State CHM: 2
Michigan State COM: 3
Wayne State: 1
M*ch*g*n: 1

I thought MSU was only looking to expand their class. I think you mean they're adding more buildings, but it's still the same school.

Anyways, they need more people becoming doctors in FL, since everyone goes there to retire.

Yeah, this is Heaven's waiting room.. Oh well, I'm still glad to hear this.

There has been a huge deficit of physicians in Florida for many years now. Great news! 👍

MSUCHM is expanding to Grand Rapids and leaving a unit behind. MSUCOM wants to expand to two other locations and leave a unit back in East Lansing.

At UCF in Orlando and FIU in Miami ! Yessss 👍 !!!

Wow, that's awesome... especially since it's saying they could take their first class as soon as 2008 and I'm a Florida resident!

UCF will be working closely w/ the Univ. of Puerto Rico SOM to develop their curriculum. They also plan to establish an exchange program with UPR SOM.
