I just got invited to interview at a UC Davis Med Center for a outpatient pharmacy clerk job. However, I just started working at Kaiser as a pharmacy clerk. Will working at the two outpatient pharmacies teach me more than working at one? Also, will it ruin my interview chances if I tell UC Davis that I already have a 8hr pharmacy clerk gig at Kaiser? (I just want to be completely honest). What would you guys do? Thanks!

I don;t know if those 2 companies are competitors like CVS and Walgreens, but when I signed up with CVS I signed a "contract" that said I could not work for any other pharmacy chain while working with them.
I hope this helps...

Ipinjoy - I think you should interview @ UC Davis for sure! These are NOT competitors....UC Davis is a university medical teaching institution. Kaiser is an HMO - they do not share patients at all. You will receive entirely different exposure from both sites. I would be upfront and decide upon what you want from your job opportunities. Do you want to work into a full time job? Either one will do that - CA jobs often start folks at a part-time situation and if they like them will interim them into more hours &/or full time. Kaiser has a real hierachary - it will take you forever to get days & few holidays.

Do you want to go on to something besides pharmacy clerk? If so, a recommendation from UC Davis will carry more weight, IMO than Kaiser.

Do you want exposure to other health professions - both are equal.

No - for an 8hr gig @ Kaiser, no one will blink an eye at UC Davis - as long as you can accomodate your schedule with both, neither will care.

I basically want to get as much exposure in a pharmacy as possible since my goal is to apply to pharmacy school this summer. Im ok with 8hr a week work schedules since I am going to school full-time. The UC Davis job is only per diem. Thanks for the encouragement and input! =)

I think it'll definitely be a plus to work at the two pharmacies. Even though they're both outpatient you'll be able to have more exposure to the inner workings of different pharmacies. I recently started working at Kaiser as well and it's MADDDD busy... but I love it cuz I learn so much more and on top of that the time flys 🙂
