A few questions from a sort of late applicant (submitted 9/15)

1) How long does it take for AMCAS to receive a letter-of-rec through snail mail? I got a late non-science LOR coming sent through the mail.

2) How long does it take for medical schools to receive your LOR after you have assigned it to them? I have been assigning them as I fill my secondaries but I wanted to know if I should assign them preemptively.

Can't really say how long it will take for the snail mail LOR to reach AMCAS. However, AMCAS should process it pretty quickly once they get it. I'd def. assign the LOR to any schools you'll be submitting secondaries so that it goes out to them as soon it's processed. Once it's processed AMCAS makes the LOR's available to med schools for download right away. The time it takes for each med school to actually download your LOR can vary greatly. I've had schools do it the day the LOR was available and other schools not download the LOR for weeks.
