1. I mean REALLY, HOW important can LORS actually be?
I am asking cause I will have 3 profs and one or two dentists but my PROFS are not actual BCP profs.....they would be considered sciences though (exercise science profs).....

so do you guys THINK that LORS are even that important compared to the REST OF THE APPLICATION??

2. also, supplementals. when they say that SOMEONE will contact you for the secondary or whatever else, HAVE THEY ACTUALLY LOOKED OVER YOUR APP, or DO THEY SEND SECODNARIES and such TO EVERYONE??

cause i know for med school, most of them secondaries to everyone automatically!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙁

ANY Opinions appreciated. good luck. byebye.

i don't believe that LORs are too important for dental school admission, unless they are from someone that holds some weight at the school (i.e. professor, board of alumni, etc.)

However, each school has required minimums for not only the number of letters but also who they must be from. As a rule of thumb, almost every school requires at least two letters from science professors (i.e. bio, chem, physics, and math profs NOT exercice science). Therefore, if you do not meet the schools minimum they probably won't even look at your application. sooo....hit up some of your BCP/math profs for letters.

I think it depends on school to school, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that receiving a secondary in no way means that a school is SERIOUSLY interested in you. Like med school, it is a way to make more money. There are some schools that send out secondaries to everyone and others that only send them to semicompetitive applicants.

If you really know a professor very well and they can provide unique insight to your character/class rank/ and motivations, ... then an LOR can make a huge difference

thanks for the advice you guys!

NOW, since i DO NOT necessarily HAVE BCPM LORS, how do you ask those specific profs if youve NEVER MET THEM :scared:

any other opionions on the questions, or advice on how to hit up those teaches? :scared: 😕 😳 👍

I think since you have never met your science professors, you should definetely go in person and be honest with them. Then, impress them or convince them with your desire to go to dental school, academic abilities, etc. so at least they know why they should even bother in writing you a letter of recommendation even though they don't really know you...I don't know..but I hope this helps..Good Luck!

I dunno, I feel that LORs are pretty much going to be the same It depends on the letter writer and how proficient they are in actually writing good letters. I only have one letter from a prof who I barely knew (the other two I did research for), and he was actually pleased that when I met up with him I provided him my undergrad thesis, CV and transcript. I guess you can do that if u don't know the prof really well.

for LORs, I know there are a couple of schools that require you to have LORs from 1 bio prof , 1 chem prof , and from 1 dentist. I asked them if it's okay if i got LORs from 2 chem profs...and they adamantly said NO!

I dont know how important the LOR is. I hope they are important in application process, since I only have avg. scores, but 4 very solid LORs.

😱 i only have letters from physics and biology...oh goodness gracious. Which schools demand a chem letter, can you tell so that i won't waste money applying to them? Thanks! i'm too busy to research these stuff at this moment.

of course LOR are important -- adcoms take everything into consideration!

keep in mind though, there is a difference between a LOR that generically reads "so-and-so was a good student in my class and asked some good questions during office hours... blah blah blah" and one that specifically reads "so-and-so did research in my lab for 3 years, together we published 2 papers... detail, anecdote, detail"

everybody has 'solid' LORs -- but most are general letters of support whereas some have real meaningful details. the later will help you get into dental school.

a good LOR can make the biggest difference in the world especially if you have border line stats. it could just do the trick of tipping you over and getting accepted

ok, SEE, i didnt think that they were so adamant about LORS! i just thought if your grades and DAT were fine, then they WOULDNT care so much about LORS??

SO, maybe a committee letter would be more advantagous???

I GUESS I WILL try my hardest to have a pre health committee write me a composite letter!!!

DOES anyone know exactly HOW to have a committee write you one? just dont know how to go about this 🙁 😕 :scared: 😡 😴

LORs can be very influential, they got me into dental school.

OK, so if we dont use AADSAS for our LORS, DO WE STILL have to enter the information in the "Evaluators" section?

i think i am going to have the health dept. at my school just forward them to each school instead!

thanks for all the help! 😳
