I have a questions for those who applied during the summer going into their senior year of college. I would assume your stats would need to be above and beyond someone who has already completed college, or is this more of a standard affair? Also do all your pre-req's need to be taken before applying or may you be in the process of taking a pre-req?

If the admissions process is significantly more demanding for applying early I think I would just wait then so I hopefully would only need to apply once.

Thanks

Most people apply during the summer before senior year. This is typical and would not really require a higher GPA for a better chance of getting accepted. If you apply early and get accepted early it actually means that you do not have to worry as much about doing great your senior year. Of course you cant start failing everything but from what I have heard you really have to screw up with grades after already being accepted to lose your spot (if anyone else knows otherwise please reply). Also from what I have seen here on SDN, it seems that if you graduate then apply, or don't get accepted and have to apply a second time it may be more difficult if you are not doing something impressive during that year off.

As far as pre-reqs go, they do not have to be complete before you send your applications, but you will have to complete them before you start d-school. You should be sure to do well in them, it would be bad to get accepted and then not make a certain cut off grade that a school has set.

thanks for the reply so then do most people take the DAT following the summer going into their junior year?

take it when you're ready to take it. if you're applying the summer prior to senior year, i would take the DAT that same summer, or very early fall. if you are not a good test taker, you might want to consider taking it the spring before your senior year just in case you need to take it one more time.

I am applying right now as a senior who will graduate this december. I have taken already 3 semesters bio, 2 semesters physics, 2 semesters gen chem, and 2 semesters orgo. I am currently in orgo lab and microbiology. I took the DAT this past summer. I think as long as you're on track to graduate before dental school they view you as an applicant with a degree.
