I took the DATs last August and got an AA 16 TS 17👎...so I knew I had to retake. I was planning on taking them this August 1st (less than 2 weeks away)....but I did my first simulated full length practice exam 2day from Kaplan (suppose to be easy) since last summer and got 15 in G.Chem and Orgo!!! I don't think Ill be ready in two weeks!!! So my questions are:

1) What is the lastest date I can take my exam in August to still be considered by schools (I know the earlier the better)? My AADSAS app is in...schools are just waiting for my scores now.

2) Should I just take it on August 1st and do another retake in Oct if I bomb it or will that look really bad.

b) Also my :meanie: advisor told me she is holding my committee letter "hostage" until she has my scores...and after she sends the letter it will probably take another 6-8 weeks to process....

I want to cry...I have a migrain from starring at this effin screen all day long today and don't know what to do. I don't want to think about failing AGAIN this year. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. :help::bang:

Don't take the exam until you feel ready for it. If you've kept up with your studies and are somewhat familiar with the topics, I don't see why it would take longer than a few weeks to really study. Realistically, I doubt all the SDNers that take 3-4 months to study for these things really retain what they read. Seriously, if you could do that then you'd be popping a 4.0 out easily in school because the semesters are about that long. Anyways, I'm taking my exam Aug 2nd and have been working full time. In the same boat as you...didn't do well last year and need to retake. It's subjective when "too late" is but I think it's a general consensus on the forums that you want to get your info in around August-ish. I'd say if you have the drive, buckle down, bring out the books, become a hermit for the next 3 weeks, and take it mid- August..and don't plan on retaking it in Oct. good luck!

I second that. In another post I explained my situation, which is very similar to yours, and when I took it last year I completely bombed the test.

First, I would take the weekend off and relax. Clear your mind and refocus. Take your score report and put the numbers you want next to the ones you have. Then go subject by subject. Tear things down to what you know and things that you dont. review what you do and learn what you dont. (use the ADA breakdown of the exam to help focus your studies).

Pick apart the Destroyer (if you have it) use wiki and SDN as resources to answer questions that you do not understand. There are great online resources out there that will help as well.

Keep your chin up bra. The three of us seem to be in similar boats and it's not worth rocking the boat when we all should be rocking the DAT.

Learn it, Live it, Love it

Well future I am glad that I could help you out.

As far as loving to study. I wouldn't necessarily say that I, or anyone else loves studying, but I know what you are saying. If you need a break from studying go for a walk, ride a bike, grab a bite/a drink but whatever you do dont watch TV. I have found that when I do that I end up wasting 2,3 even 4 hours before I am like "OH SH@$".

Here are some of the online resources that I have found helpful. With course saver though you will need to download the file (avi; they are safe) and then view them. Go to the section for DAT/MCAT review.

Best of luck to ya.
