Hello SriRam,

Thanks for being so informative and posting some information about the University of Michigan ..!!( unlike others...University of Colorado)..
Have you applied to the school and do you have any idea regarding their bench exam?..and also the number of seats that they have for advanced standing students? 🙂
Thanks
All the best

Hi sriram,
Thanks for the post buddy.Do u know how many they accept per year.I saw in their website that they start sending out the acceptences from december. So do u think we can still apply and hope from the school???
Any idea about their interveiw procedure???

any info is appretiated.

Life is pretty short maybe few days left in our lifetime , ( i just heard one of my classmates died due to heart attack back in india who was a flourishing orthodontist who was 33 ) , well in our short life span to help someone and to not forget the past what we have gone thru is one rich good quality of a human being , i really see the real virtue of this guy called sri ram and i really admire
you as a true unseen friend , i wish if i really had some good friends like u who is not selfish but frank and honest would have made usa a better place for foriegn trained dentist to live , i been checkin sdn for 4 yrs for advanced standing ..................... i am still standing nowwhere
THIS ONE POST REALLY MADE A GOOD DIFFERENCE IN ME

Hi Mekka,

Sorry to hear about your friend.
Your post to Sri Ram was very inspiring/touching and I am sure that his act will prod us to be helpful to fellow students in future.

Thank you Sriram for posting information about this opportunity.
It benefits everyone at SDN when information is shared freely.

I was curious about the number of people they will take in the
ITDP program at Michigan since there is no mention about this
on the web site. I e-mailed Pattie Katcher, and she said that
since this is a brand new program they are still developing the
curriculum and they are asking the applicants to be patient
as they work out the bugs in the program. Since this is the
first year, they are only looking for about 4 students. 😱

This opportunity seems to be about equivalent to that at
Columbia University this year where they interviewed 10 people
for 4 spaces. If you have the spare cash for the $175 application
fee + $250 for the interview if you are called, you could take a
chance on this but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. NYU
with its 110 spaces is still the best hope for those waiting for a
spot for this year.

hi sri ram,
thank u so much for posting the information.good luck and i hope u get into a school of ur choice.
thanks

thanks dent_doc for getting us the info.
Ofcourse NYU is a big hope (as always?).Though the no. of seats at U Mich are less it is definitely something. 4 more of us will be able to join this year instead of waiting.
And heard that U Mich is a great school.
Also, many people who already got admissions may not apply now. So, probably little less competitive.
Good luck to all the guys applying for U Mich.

Internationally Trained Dentist Program (ITDP)

The University of Michigan School of Dentistry Internationally Trained Dentist Program (ITDP) offers an opportunity for dentists who are graduates of foreign dental schools to obtain a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. The program of study includes didactic, laboratory, and comprehensive patient care experiences. Graduates of the program will have acquired the requisite knowledge and skills to engage in contemporary dental practice in the United States. Graduation from this program does not give automatic licensure to practice dentistry in the United States, since all states require new dental graduates to pass state or regional licensing examinations. Graduates of the ITDP will be eligible to take most state and regional dental licensing examinations offered in the United States (a few states still require US citizenship for dental licensure).

The ITDP is an accelerated course of study that requires full-time, daily attendance for a minimum of two years (six fourteen week terms). In some cases the program may be extended to meet individual student’s educational needs. Student’s progression through the program is determined by the Guidelines for Scholarship and Promotion of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. The ITDP program begins in May each year with an intensive one term didactic and preclinical course. Following successful completion of this course, ITDP students will join the third year dental class for the fall and winter terms (terms two and three). Candidates who are unsuccessful in the initial summer term may be denied further continuation in the program. During the fourth term, ITDP students will take additional didactic and clinical courses as well as complete required clinical rotations, some of which will take place in other clinical sites within Michigan in addition to the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. ITDP students will join the fourth year dental class for the remaining fall and winter terms (terms five and six). The achievement of passing evaluations in all coursework will result in the granting of the D.D.S. degree. Please see the enclosed calendar for more details on the course of study for terms two, three, five, and six. The course work planned for terms one and four is currently under development and you may view updates by clicking here.

as far as transcripts is concerned if your school sends it directly to the university , than it is very good
but if they have given you a copy , than you should get it notarised and send it along with your application form
i think the toefl scores takes like three working days if you do it through phone ,I am not very sure about that, just call toefl and ask them
i think you have two choices
you request your scores to be sent by phone or by fax
they charge some 15 dollars extra but the score goes in three working days
check with toefl and confirm it

Can I get the URL to the page which gives information on program for internationally trained dentists at NYU finishing which one gets license to practice in the US?
