The University of Michigan really impressed me early on in interview season, but I feel like there were more question I needed to ask. I know they have a new woman's/ children's hospital, and the residents and PD seem really nice. I just wonder how much autonomy and continuity the residents have with their patients and what is the reputation outside of the Mid-West. ( I'm from the west coast, and am strongly considering trading near perfect weather for them). Thanks! :luck:

It's a premier program. Is there anything U of M is not good at? 🙂

Anyone who doesn't recognize the University of Michigan's stellar reputation (in pretty much everything they do) is not worth working for.

I'm a U of M undergrad, so I always have a soft spot for Ann Arbor. I think it is an excellent program (in OB-GYN and practically all fields), and the majority of people in OB-GYN know it (and LOVE Dr. Johnson). I do think your concern/criticism is somewhat valid, and I think it applies similarly to Wash. U. as well. Looking at their fellowship rank lists, it appears most stay in the midwest. I wonder if this is less an inability to match on the coasts, or more of a reflection of midwesterners who want to stay in the midwest.

I will be ranking them lower, but mostly because I've been there/done that with Ann Arbor and harsh winters, but would still love to train there.

no offense but this thread is ******ed. are you seriously questioning michigan's reputation and are there people actually TRYING TO SELL you the program?

Berger911 I guess it's like your questions about UCSD.
Anyway, Thanks everyone. I just found it surpising that I loved this program so much. Maybe I was looking for other applicants who could answer my questions about resident's autonomy and decision making with the attending. It was so early in interview season that my memory has faded a little. Best of luck to everyone!

UCSD is not a top 10 state school, business shook, law shool, and medical school. Not to mention the athletics to make it a common household name. No comparison.
