Your first year is primarily Basic Sciences, since you take the boards after year one.
They're in the process of playing around wit hthe curriculum, so what you have may differ slightly from what we had this year.
First semester:
Dental Anatomy - 2 Units
Dental Anatomy Lab (Waxing) - 1 Unit
Molecular Bio / Biochem 1 - 4 Units
Molecular Bio / Biochem 2 - 2 Units
Microbio - 2 Units
Cariology - 2 Units
General Histology - 3 Units
Oral Histology / Embryology - 3 Units
Intro to Dentistry - 5 Units
Clinical Applications (Clinic rotation) - 1 Unit
Total - 25 Units, but from what I've heard, they're getting rid of the Biochem class since it's a pre-req, so that should really lighten the load a lot.
Second Semester:
General Anatomy - 4 Units
Skull Anatomy / Cephelometrics - 2 Units
Head and Neck Anatomy - 4 Units
Operative Dentistry (Amalgam) - 2 Units
Operative Dentistry Lab - 2 Units
Periodontics 1 - 1 Unit
Physiology - 5 Units
Health Promotion & Disease Prevention - 2 Units
Total - 22 Units
Summer Semester:
Not totally sure on this one since they're still working on it, but in taking to upper classmen you take:
Microbio
Pathology
Composite
Oral & Maxillofacial Genetics
It's pretty rough the first year, but it's doable. You also need to maintain at least a 2.6 by the end of the Spring Semester, and get no more than 1 D. Hope that answers your question!
