I have a "U" on my amcas application next to my address. They say at the bottom that this indicates that "An indicator of (U) indicates that the County is considered Medically Underserved."

Just wondering if this will help me in with admissions?

I was wondering the same thing. I have the same "U" next to my county, but I know that we have quite a few physicians. For that reason, I don't think medical schools will put that much emphasis on it (because it seems like the criteria for "medically underserved" is really broad). If you're from a real medically underserved area, like rural areas, then you could play that up in your essays/interview if you intend to go back to practice. That might help.

The U is sort of inaccurate sometimes. When I filed my app last year, I was living in Los Angeles County, which counts as underserved. Yes, there are some areas that are underserved, but would you consider Beverly Hills, which is also in LA County, underserved?
