Does anyone know how Univ. of Pittsburgh is with out-of-state applicants ? Do they take a reasonable number and what are the reqs for competitive out-of-state applicants ? Thanks

I think they take quite a few out of staters....but watch out. They accept people from out of state early in the process knowing that out of staters are less likely to attend if they get into schools in their home state (and therefore it's an easy way for Pitt to make an extra 750 on your non-refundable deposit). I was accepted there and learned the hard way. It's not a very competitive school and it's pretty easy to get into....bottom line is go ahead and apply, but only give them a deposit if you're pretty sure you want to go there.

they accepted 12 people out of state last year. i know they are very slow and i found out that they are not gonna even start reviewing apps for this year for another 2 weeks.

Do you guys know if U pitt accepts Canadian students?
thanks~

Hey jack604,

I am a fellow Canadian just starting my first year at Pitt...and so far...it's great!! 🙂

I had a great time at the school during my interview since everyone was so friendly and open, plus I felt very comfortable and at home instantly.

This year 2 other Canadians are attending, both from Ontario. So your chances are good as long as you apply early.

Good Luck!!

Hi Hot-n Aml,

Am also a Canadian student and I was wondering how much it cost to go to U of Pitt??? Tuition and living expenses

Thanks

Oh Congrads on your acceptance

Hey Sallyubc,

The majority of dental schools in the US are expensive...but UPitt isn't as expensive as some of the other schools like NYU.

Tuition is approximately 36K US per year, then you have to include fees, insurance, etc. I'm taking a loan out from CanHelp of approx. 45K US per year.....but will probably not use it all since I'm fortunate enough to have some help from my parents.

The loan has flexible repayment options after graduation which is ideal.

As for Pittsburgh, rent is reasonable. I live very close to the school and have many conveniences around me for a great price, so you will have to shop around.

I hope this helps...
good luck!!

Hot-n-Mail please keep us posted about the university and how is your frst year is going..

Cheers 😛

Hey sallyubc and everyone else out there interested in Pitt...

I will do my best to update you guys on what's going on in my first year.

To begin, it's been quite an adjustment so far. We're learning the general sciences like histology, biochem, etc. But we're also being introduced to the labs, which are top of the line. The simulation clinic is very impressive, and you will get a chance to see it during your interviews.

The transition has been smooth so far, so stay tuned!!!

As well, good luck to all of you out there with the application process. As I mentioned before, I really enjoyed the interview at Pitt, so it will be worth your time.

Take care until next time,

Hot-n-Aml

Hey Zurich5,

PBL at Pitt doesn't start until spring or summer term, so I'll fill you in when we get there.😉
