Let’s talk about med school acceptance rates. Which schools have the lowest acceptance rates? The 120 med schools ranked by U.S. News in their 2017-2018 survey, had an average of a 7% acceptance rate, while those with the lowest acceptance rates averaged a mere 2.8%!

Here’s a look at this past year’s list:

1. Mayo Clinic School of Medicine: 8,068 applicants; 168 acceptances; acceptance rate 2.1%; U.S. News research rank 6 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank 32 (tie)

2. Stanford University: 7,258 applicants; 167 acceptances; acceptance rate 2.3%; U.S. News research rank 3 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank 32 (tie)

3. Florida State Universtiy: 5,866 applicants; 151 acceptances; acceptance rate 2.6%; U.S. News research rank RNP; U.S. News primary care rank RNP

4. Wake Forest University : 9,281 applicants; 261 acceptances; acceptance rate 2.8%; U.S. News research rank 52 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank 61 (tie)

5. George Washington University 11,432 applicants; 335 acceptances; acceptance rate 2.9%; U.S. News research rank 62 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank 79 (tie)

6. Georgetown University : 14,062 applicants; 403 acceptances; acceptance rate 2.9%; U.S. News research rank.46 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank RNP

7. University of California - Davis: 6,943 applicants; 204 acceptances; acceptance rate 2.9%; U.S. News research rank 39 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank 10 (tie)

8. University of California - Los Angeles (Geffen): 11,417 applicants; 362 acceptances; acceptance rate 3.2%; U.S. News research rank 8 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank 4

9. Brown University (Alpert): 9,922 applicants; 322 acceptances; acceptance rate 3.2%; U.S. News research rank 32 (tie); U.S. News primary care rank 39 (tie)

10. University of California - San Diego: 7,972 applicants; 258 acceptances; acceptance rate 3.2%; U.S. News research rank 22; U.S. News primary care rank 17
Notes from U.S. News:

  • Unranked schools, which did not meet certain criteria required by U.S. News to be numerically ranked, were not included in this report.
  • *RNP indicates a school that is ranked in the bottom quarter of all rank-eligible medical and osteopathic programs. U.S. News calculated a rank for those schools, but elected not to print it.
