It's more that I have a really strong connection to Indiana and probably wouldn't be happy going anywhere else. Regarding the volunteering, I asked around at my school premed advising and they mentioned that it counts as non clinical volunteering because I teach ENL to immigrants who aren't students and I prepare my own tailored lessons for them. Does that change anything? Thanks for the help. What did Indiana say to signal you to apply ED? It would be a shame to be "late" to so many schools with your stats.
Your non-clinical community service is lacking service orientation activities. Tutoring is an academic activity. I am okay with narcan kit packing, but having more contact with substance use disorder patients would be better, and none of your clinical activities seem to be related. You need 150 hours of food distribution, shelter volunteering, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation to avoid getting screened out at most schools, and with your metrics, your app would be on pace with similar high-metrics applicants if you had 250 hours at submission. For Indiana, how many of your activities directly impact Indiana communities (meaning, not on campus)?
No. Practically all premeds do teaching, tutoring, or mentoring, including ESL courses where they design lessons. Sure, it might be non-clinical volunteering, but it shows academic competency, not service orientation. It's more that I have a really strong connection to Indiana and probably wouldn't be happy going anywhere else. The reason he's asking you that question is that if you are going to apply ED to a school, it's good to talk to them about it first. It's more that I have a really strong connection to Indiana and probably wouldn't be happy going anywhere else. Alright, that makes sense. Thanks so much! The reason he's asking you that question is that if you are going to apply ED to a school, it's good to talk to them about it first.
Find on the IU website the contact info of the director for ED applications.
Ask if you can have a meeting with them.
Having this meeting is kind of like "an interview before your interview".
Be ready with all your information as well as what you are going to say about why you feel so strongly about applying ED.
They might have some forms or essays for you to do.
Ask them if they feel you are a good candidate to apply to their school ED: they will tell you, if not right then, in an email later.
