Unless it has changed from two years ago, the dinner was somewhat casual... "business casual" is probably the closest term. a nice shirt and pants was appropriate then. i don't remember anyone in a suit. the residents all seemed down to earth and friendly, and the dinner (as well as the interview day) was stress-free.

Wear a suit the day of the interview. The dinner the night before is pretty casual. Go to the dinner if you can get there. It is a good way to get a feel for the residents and the program in general. Attendings do not go to the dinner. Hope this helps.

agreed. i just read my reply and wrote "interview" where i meant "dinner". the interview is NOT business casual 😛 fixed my post.
i spent the weekend before my interview there and got to spend some time driving around Birmingham and recommend this to anyone not from the area. I liked the program, but if I only saw the view of town from the hospital it would not have been as high on my rank list.
Agree with above. Interviewed in Birmingham yesterday; the dinner the night before was very casual--interviewees wore nice shirts (no tie) and slacks. Residents were very friendly. No pressure whatsoever.
