Hello! I am choosing between these two schools and would love some insight! Interested in specializing! Thank you!

UAB (In-state)
Pros:
1. Cost (~240k)
2. Closer to home
3. class size (~70)
4. Clinically strong curriculum
Cons:
1. Location
2. Less diversity
3. Not many specialize

Columbia
Pros:
1. Specialty rate/opportunities and ranking system
2. Location
3. Diversity
4. Opportunities for research and networking
5. Strong didactic curriculum to prepare for specialty
6. small class size (~80)
Cons:
1. Cost (~500k)

oh em gee
cheapest...

UAB is a great program. You’ll be able to specialize if that’s what you end up wanting to do. You’ll also have $300k less in debt.

If you went to Columbia and then wanted to do ortho or something like that you could easily be up in the $750k range when you’re done. That’s a lot of student loans.

Please don’t go to Columbia just because you think it’ll help you specialize
