i'm an hpsp recipient, so cost is not as big as a factor
uab
pros:
- much closer to home
- has all the specialties, so i can get more exposure
- strong clinically
- high emphasis on students doing research
cons:
- less diversity
- less to do in bham compared to sf
uop
pros:
- only 3 yrs
- more diversity
- weather is more stable
- more to do in SF
- less specialties, so more complex cases go to the dental students
- strong clinically
- humanistic model of education, so the faculty for the most part are supportive and nice
cons:
- 3 yrs means that everything is more compressed, more stressful
- located in a more dangerous area in SF

summary: the biggest thing that i want to get from dental school is a strong clinical foundation and also be able to specialize if if there's a specific specialty that i feel drawn to. both programs are amazing, so it's super hard to make a decision!
