I submitted my application on september 1st but havent received a response from them. My GPA on the application is around 3.5 with my oat scores being 360 and TS of 360. I have contacted them twice (once a month) in regards to my application, and the secretary said she will pull my record out for review. She also mentioned that i am a competitive candidate. But at this point, it doesn't seem very likely!

I'm wondering if i should give up.

yet another condescending/stupid post by someone who knows they have decent scores.

do you expect everyone here to say "noo don't give up you'll be fine cuz you've got great scores!" ? because no one is going to say "yes you should give up with a 3.5 and 360", are they? and what do you mean if you should "give up"? didn't you already send in your application? you can't really give up even if you wanted to, all you can do is wait. i suppose you can call them and say "i give up". haha. anyway to be nice, if you've already called the admissions office and if they didn't tell you that you're missing anything, then there's nothing else you could do. most likely you'll hear good news in the near future. g'luck.

I was wondering if this is happening to anyone else besides for me. I read the boards and noticed a few people getting interviews and i am starting to be concerned. I was looking at the 2007-2008 profile and it seems that they dont offer a lot of seats to out-of-state students. Perhaps they offer these few seats to people with an outstanding GPA/OAT score, which i don't happen to know.

By giving up, i wanted to know whether i should stop calling and asking. I am in the process of deciding which offers i would like to accept since the seats at the other schools are starting to fill up.

Oh, I was "hoping" for people to give me constructive criticism/advice instead of mocking me.

I've received 4/5 interview invitations. the one that i haven't gotten is from UAB. They have a very small class size (45) and an even smaller allotment to out-of-state students (10). I wouldn't expect to hear from them as an out-of-state student, but if I do, oh well, I've already decided on where to go. i had a science GPA of about 3.6 and TS of 370 but i sent in my app later than you 😛 good luck

C'mon, LOL ....thats a little harsh , if you have been through it you know waiting to be called can be very stressful ,some people use this forum as a place to vent , no rules against that !

haha I totally agree. that's why i sometimes use the forum to vent about those who put up posts like OP's. If they took the time to review some of the things said in this forum they'll know what their "chances" are. Even if they didn't, im sure they know what constitutes a solid score. Those who are posting merely to get reassurance, or praise, about how they'll get in w/ their obviously qualified scores are annoying and are putting down people who actually need real advice and should really be worried. Having done my agonizing share of going through the application twice, and having talked with multiple counselors over the past 2 years gives me the chance to give useful advice to those who would benefit from it since this forum have helped me in so many ways. and putting a little fun into these posts wouldn't really hurt either right 😎

In this case, however, the OP makes no mention of applying to other schools. If they're out of state, the chances of them getting in to UAB are pretty slim even with those stats especially if the school already accepted one or two ppl from the OP's state already. The advice for this case would be to make sure they applied to other schools where they would definitely get an interview invite w/ their stats.

I got an email for an interview on aug 22nd from IU, aug 24th ICO, and sept 17 MCO. I scheduled my interview for IU to be this week friday, so wish me luck!

enough said.

GG 🙂 I keep referring back to the first message OP wrote and ignoring everything else in between haha

Where did you get that quote? I don't read through every post so i didn't catch that one. ALTHOUGH I probably should have caught "I am in the process of deciding which offers i would like to accept since the seats at the other schools are starting to fill up." which was in the 2nd post by the OP on this string 😛

The thread where that quote came from was from early september, and i believe the thread was regarding interviews for IU.

I have visited those schools, and i havent found one that i am truly excited about. I wanted to know about UAB , because i have been to that school and i can see myself going there. I have done my research, and i was hoping to talk to people who have gotten accepted or interviewed. I am here for helpful comments and not begging reassurance. I posted my stats for comparison and not to boast my ego (my oat and gpa is pretty average).

i got an interview to uab with stats less than yours. i haven't heard back from them since then, however i do know someone who got in with similar stats as mine. i applied as an out-of-state applicant but from an SREB state. they have two spots for students from my state and i think 7 seats at large (miscellaneous). i also applied very early b/c of this (mid-july).
i decided to attend another school so i didnt bother following up with them but the other person i know who got in did follow up and heard back from them.
uab is usually pretty slow with this stuff b/c they are such a small school. my advice to you is to call and express your interest.

Thank you! I will keep on calling and letting them know that i am still interested.
