UAB & Wake Forest: I'm hoping for feedback comparing the programs (surgical volume, didactics, fellowship match, environment). Due to scheduling conflicts I have to choose between the two programs. Thanks!

You definitely need to go to UAB.

UAB is a larger, more well-respected program that draws from a huge area. It has a dedicated eye ER, from which you take in-house call and see a ton of pathology. Not that Wake is bad (I'm sure their training is just fine), but UAB is on another level. I would rank it among the top 25 residency programs in the country. Disclaimer: I did not train there, but know many who have.

No question, UAB.

I interviewed at UAB. It was in my top 4. Great place to train, no question about choosing UAB over WF.

I too interviewed at UAB. I was very surprised by the program. Great faculty that have trained in pretty prestigious places (Wilmer, UCLA, BP, MEEI, etc.). Retina is pretty strong (lots of vitrectomies to be done). Don't give this interview up, you'll be pleasantly surprised with your trip there.

Thanks for the input!
