Okay guys, sorry to do another one of these threads, but I need to hear some other people's opinions. I just got off the waiting list at Tulane, and am trying to decide whether to accept it and turn down UAB, or to stay at UAB. I really like both schools and feel that I will be happy at either place, with both schools having some advantages and some disadvantages over the other. If you have any opinion on the two, please let me know.

If you're an Alabama resident UAB would hold a huge cost advantage for you. If not UAB would still be cheaper by some $8k a year. I think you would get a terrific education at either school, so for me the tiebreaker would come down to cost.

Not to mention the COL differential... N'awlins is surprisingly quite expensive. Tulane does carry more national name recognition (I think), if you are so inclined to leave the area. Particularly in the northeast, which supplies massive quantities of undergrad students to Tulane.

If you are in-state at UAB, no contest. If not, tough call. Since I am known to party a bit, I'd jump at Tulane, but that's just me ;-)

i say UAB so I can get your spot at Tulane 🙂

If you want to study medicine with a bunch of people from Alabama (and there is nothing wrong with that) then go to UAB. If you want to study with people from ALL OVER the country...then go to Tulane. I really value the geographic diversity at Tulane. Plus New Orleans is way bigger than B-ham and offers more opportunities for community service, entertainment, etc.

I'm bias though, I go to Tulane.

Go to UAB, I have a friend on the waitlist at Tulane... Just kidding, I guess for me it would be a question of money as well. Are you resident for UAB if so I would go instate.

We are sooo underrated.

Come here, no matter if you're out-of-state or in-state, unless you plan to spend all of your time in medical school partying. 😀

EDIT: Again, let me know if you have any questions. I will say I seriously doubt that you'll get a superior clinical education at Tulane. Not to mention as far as (research) reputation is concerned, consider that UAB's NIH research intake alone exceeds the intake of ALL institutions in Louisiana (248 vs. 157 mil).

I'm out of state at UAB. Right now, I think I am leaning towards going to UAB, although my spot at Tulane is awful hard to give up. After interviewing, these were my two top schools so it is going to be difficult. Thanks for the advice.
