Great program all the way around, but I believe they recently lost their chairman, David Chestnut.
Really? He's still here as of last month.

I've got a practice in Huntsville....Any graduating residents interested?

What I've heard is that he's accepted a position to be chairman of an anesthesia department and a medical staff director. As I understand it, it is not a teaching institution he is headed to.
I interviewed for Anesthesiology at UAB, so I met with Dr. Chestnut personally. In fact, on the very day of the interview, that's when he first mentioned to the entire department that he was leaving.
Dr. Chestnut will be leaving UAB as of June 2005. He was very satisfied with his work as Dept. Chair, but he noted it was time for fresh blood in the position. He had been Chair for over 10 years.
He and his wife had been talking for quite some time about moving back to where she is from (Wisconsin) and for him to take on an easier schedule and a more administrative role.
So, he will now be moving to La Crosse, Wisconsin to work with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School program, which has a satellite training facility in La Crosse through the Gundersen-Lutheran medical program. Gundersen-Lutheran is definitely a medical teaching facility, it has three residencies (Gen Surg, IM, Transitional Year) and takes on medical students rotating from UW Med School.

That makes more sense. I have rarely seen academic chairs leave teaching permanently.
Funny, I heard his name being floated around for the Dean of the medical school.
They selected an external candidate, so my guess is that he's peeved.

I am thinking of doing my away at UAB? They do not provide a place to stay. Does anyone know where a good place to stay is or some good ideas on finding a place for 4 weeks.
Thanks
Thanks

I sent you a PM.
The gas chair at UAB is indeed leaving to take an associate deanship at the University of Wisconsin.
