Which would you choose? These are my top 3 I am pondering and I really would like opinions and/or reasons for each. Anyone help?

Is UB Buffalo? I think Buffalo is the cheapest. But, if costs are out of the equation, I would choose Nova. Facilities, location, and I honestly liked a lot of the people I met there.

Well there are a couple things to consider... looking at your predents, you are from pittsburgh, a gross city when it comes to weather (otherwise it is beautiful, love those hills)...

Considering those 3 are your top school, I am assuming that money is not an issue for you. Nova has great weather and location. I don't know much about UB other than it is in beautiful Boston. And Maryland's facilities are nuts...

I mean do you plan on specializing? Do you want a low stress environment? What do want to get out of your Dschool?

But I did see your predents and I would go to UF 🙂

Well, initially price wasn't important. However, after thinking about it, it was too late to consider cost except for Buffalo which is very reasonable.

I didn't really like my UF trip. No windows and Gainesville didn't really fascinate me. It seemed dead.

If I went to Florida, I would choose Nova over UF for the weather and facilities.

I DO want to specialize and any advice on which school(s) are best in my lift would be helpful. I DO want a lower stress environment, and I just want to get a good education, a lot of experience, and be able to specialize.

Thanks for the responses, any more would be greatly appreciated, even if it relates to UF....tell me more.

you're going to be able to get a good education, experience, and ability to specialize pretty much wherever you choose to go. It really depends on your own comfortability and personal feelings. Do you see yourself being more comfortable close to home? Or do you want to move away and end up maybe piling up some more debt. Again, it is all your own choice.

If you are thinking of practicing in Florida, chose Nova. If you are planning on going back to the Pittsburgh area or any state accepting the NERB, Buffalo is a very strong clinical program with plenty opportunities to get involved with community dentistry, international mission trips, and definitely prepares well for the practice of general dentistry while still getting many students into specialty programs.

I'm a first year at UB. We have some great teachers and some not so great teachers (in the basic sciences); I'm pretty sure it's like that everywhere... Buffalo is a great place to live. Cost of living is low, people are nice, tuition is cheap, you can get in-state after 1 year or from the get-go if you buy a house. The clinics are awesome, every student gets their own operatory. Only a few schools in the world offer you this. That was the selling point for me. We are doing tooth preps on fake heads w/ teeth, mounted on a real clinic chair in patient position (when we aren't in that clinic, patients are), in a real clinic w/ windows 2 afternoons a week as first-years. Class size of 90 is nice, too, not too big, not too small.

Dental school faculty are fantastic, people are happy & there's a lot of pride. I'm happy to be here. I interviewed at Nova & wasn't impressed, but that's just me. Weather there would have been awesome though. Didn't interview UM, but it has a good rep. I say go with your gut feeling of where you will be most happy because you will be more likely to succeed in whatever you want if you're happy.

Last year's graduating class only had a handful of people specialize. They told us if we want OS or Ortho, need to be top 1 or 2 in the class. Couple others did peds, I think. Every works hard & is really smart. Classes are rarely curved, so you have to know 90% of the material to get an A. It's do-able, but not at all easy. Being top 10% is tough, but I imagine that is true at any school. I would ask the schools for data on how many ppl got into specialties for the last few years.

Hope that helps...
