Just wanted to see how many UBC or BC (Canada) students on SDN are applying to US schools coz of the irrational system of acceptance at UBC!!

i applied to UBC this year and i'm wondering what you mean by "irrational system of acceptance".

from the stories ive heard bout UBC, being the skool where im doin my ugrad, UBC considers carving very heavily and at times they really dont care too much bout the academics.

and sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason, or even clear way of selection!!

my essay was garbage now that i think back. i hope it's not weighted too heavily!

I'm from B.C. too. However, I chose not to even apply to UBC this year. I'm dissapointed in how they don't give priority to B.C. residents whereas the majority of all of the other Canadian dental schools reserve seats for in-province applicants. I kept my $200 this year and applied elsewhere!

Thank you Canadianwriter.. hopefully now people can see wat a crappy situation we're in compared to most of the other provinces. I applied to UBC just fo kicks, but im sure i wont get in.

I'm in BC as well. I'm doing my undergrad at Malaspina on Vancouver Island.

Midwestern has rejected me (post interview), which was a little surprising to me considering some of the stats on predents but i'm applying a year early so I wouldn't have my degree upon matriculation.

I interviewed at Nova on December 20th and was told they'll be sending out the next batch of letters about two weeks into January.

Interviewed at Howard, Temple, NYU and Minnesota, 2 acceptances and 1 waitlist so far. I applied to UBC a few times. So tough to get in. One year my personal attributes section was ranked at 98 I think. It is weighed very lowly compared to DAT and GPA. So I jumped off the Canadian school boat and will be moving down south in August some time in the future, still deciding where.

I cant believe they dont give priority to BC residents. UBC just plain out sucks balls.

Ah finally people who understand! So frustrating that most other Candian schools only accept a few out of province students and hold them to higher standards, yet my home province doesn't care where you're from. I applied to UBC and some other Canadian schools last year with no luck. This year I've been accepted to NYU where I think I'll be going and have an interview at Alabama and Columbia later this month. I guess if you really want to be a dentist you just have to look to the states. Why did UBC bother making new facilities and not even increase their class sizes???
