damn damn damn!! No news yet!!

IDK wat UBC is doing with me.. first they ruin my ugrad.. n now i get no news from them??

UBC is so expensive, though. I mean, 50K for tuition! Plus, how do you guys feel about the fact that the curriculum is PBL based?

aight boys!! Gud job!! I aint going to UBC!!

Besides i dont even know y i applied, i didnt want to go to UBC to begin with!!

N e ways u guys will get something by mail soon

Interviewing on the 16th too. And you guys are right about the tuition. Its insanely high....What would you guys do if you got in UBC and an american dental school?

Depends on what you're looking for. Things to consider about UBC:

-High tuition; almost as high as some US schools.
-PBL curriculum
-First two years with the medical students.

The good part is, you get to use one of the best clinical facilities in North America, and you get to live in Vancouver...good weather!

I, personally, wouldn't be able to handle the PBL part.😛

U mite wanna re-think the whole good weather thing. Its dull and cloudy 9 months of the year. U will be soaking wet most of the time. And ya, you spend your first 2 yrs with med students. And lastly, to be honest, UBC is a money making institution!!

meh, I'm just going for the heck of it. I already have a spot at NYU and Case so I have absolutely nothing to lose.
Besides, even with the high tuition, I still save money if I live with my parents

I hear you guys....first 2 years with the med students is definitely something I dont want to throw 100K in tuition for. I interviewed at Penn and NYU and they get you started on the dental stuff almost immediately. If I get into either of those schools, Im definitely picking those over UBC (if indeed UBC takes me in). Plus I want to specialize in the States....

i want to end up in vancouver eventually so going to UBC would be good for me.

Congrats to everyone with UBC interviews!

I would love to stay in Canada, but my stats are no where near high enough for Canadian schools.

I actually want to move out of Canada.😛

has anyone heard anything from any other canadian schools yet (western)?

Me too!! I second that!!

There was an article i read 6 months ago and it basically ranked countries based on the number of applicants applying to professional schools to how many get in. Canada was ranked one of the worst and to make matters more intense, BC was ranked the worst in the country!!

Gud luck to everyone at the interview!!👍

What other canadian schools did you guys appy to?

Only UBC for me. The Ontario schools are are next to impossible to get into.

Yeah I only applied to UBC too. Interview on the 16th! I'm only in my third year of undergrad so I didn't have many other schools to choose from. I can't see myself living in Edmonton so I didn't even bother applying to UofA.
I'm sure you guys heard the rumor of a PBL component in the interview? Is this different than the PBL session we have on the day of the interview that isn't supposed to be part of our assessment?

Did anyone apply to U of T - they told me they will start sending out interview at the end of february - interviews will be held in march - i am surprised that only about 565 people applied

UofT usually gets about 600 applications anyway. so 565 sounds about right. I applied there last year when I was in my third year of undergrad only to find out that the cut off for an interview was 3.85. In short, if you have a 3.84, you don't make the cut. Thats the only down side about UofT, they purely base the applicants they are going to interview on GPA and DAT. Great school if you get in though...

Ok, it makes me feel slightly better that UBC is ranked so hard to get into. I didn't get an interview there and was kind of upset but I'm accepted to NYU and am waiting to hear from Columbia so I guess I'll just look at it as a great life experience living in New York for 4 years! Any other Canadians heading to NY for dental school?

I was, but I got accepted at Case. So I'm going there instead now.

Hey microserf123, what happens if you get into UBC as well? Will you still end up going to Case since the tuition is lower?

I'll probably still go to Case. I'm a firm believer in early clinical training and trust me, you really don't want to go to UBC if you have a choice. I've got a really good friend who's a third year and claims that at least 50% of his class can be considered clinically depressed

Hey, I paid my deposit for NYU already. I will go there if UBC doesn't accept me after my interview here. Any Vancouver people going to attend NYU? Maybe we should start a Vancouverite at NYU group? 🙂
