if they really have 300 waitlists, then I would easily imagin it will go up to 400-450 spots by mid may. Man, that is a huge number!!! 😴

So guys guess what? we have to wait longer !!! :laugh:
 
During the pre-interview talk, they said buffalo had a 25% increase of applicants compared to last years pool. So my question is, are there just more qualified applicants that are applying to buffalo and will not take their acceptance or are there more students applying to medical school in general?

i think both...
 
i'm guessing about 100 top third people, 100 middle third people, and 100 lower third people are on the waitlist

I called and asked where I was. I was told middle 1/3. A few weeks ago I was told bottom 1/3.



Not with all research, but some. If the research involves e. coli transformed with a human gene X (or any other medical research), then its definitely not disconnected.

Kfire, did you do anything to augment your application in between your bottom and middle third waitlistings?
 
From previous posts on this thread it seems as though we all have specific number values assigned to our application post-interview.

Kfire probably was just at the very top of the bottom 1/3 originally. After UB conducted more interviews a number of people must have received lower scores than Kfire's, thus bumping Kfire's overall classification up to the middle 1/3 without the application being updated at all.
 
i called today and they said they will interview until May 2nd. 😳 May seems like years away from now. hoping that we can all stay where we are or move up! but i heard part of the interviews are for UB sophmores seeking early medical admissions. they will not enter until next year.
 
I just called today and found out that I had moved from the middle of the middle third up to the upper section of the middle third of the waitlist (this happened in a span of 3 weeks- I interviewed early this month). I am super excited! This is a very promising trend for everyone as we may all move up as much as an entire third of the waitlist by the time they finalize the list in late April/early May. After giving it some thought, my guess is that it is likely that those people that are at least in the upper segment of the bottom third will either stay where they are or move up the list and NOT move down. It is now late in the application season and the majority of applicants that are super competitive (people with insanely impressive numbers and achievements) will already have alot of other offers and will be attending medical school elsewhere (hopefully leaving people who really want to attend UB a chance at getting in).
 
Gosh, I really want to go to UB, I hope people who will not attend this school withdraw ASAP!!!

Whenever I call they do NOT tell me what portion of lower 1/3 I am listed! when do you guys call or who do you talk to that gives you such exact info??? 😉

I hear you...I really want to go to UB also and will happily withdraw my current acceptance from my state school to attend.

When I called, I just told him where I was last time I called on the list so that he knew how much information to give me for my current status. When you call you have to be proactive in asking the right questions to get the information from them. They are all very nice in that office and you should not have a problem. If you were near the top of the bottom third of the waitlist I could almost bet money that you have moved to the bottom of the middle third or close to it (like Kfire). I hope we all get off this list and get an acceptance!
 
wow, I feel really silly right now. I looked up "waitlisted at UB" and this forum came up. So I added my post assuming it was the pre-pharmacy program, not the medical forum. shortly, disregard what I said, if you paid any attention to it, it was meant for the pharmacy forum😛
 
hey guys, just wanted to say thanks to all of on this forum. it's just good to have people who understand what I'm going through; this is my second time applying and i feel i like it's either hit or miss again. hopefully it's for the best this time. best of luck to all of you and keep in touch with any news you hear. it's hard to get them to tell you exactly where you are but from what i heard (through a medical student i keep in contact with) they have only accepted roughly 50 people and there are 90 spots to fill in the coming weeks. so hopefully all those superstellar candidates will drop out and lend us all a place in the class.

Sekem's right...you have nothing to worry about. In fact, you should start celebrating because according to historical trends, you are as good as in! I really hope that they keep with their trend of taking people all the way down to the bottom third again this year.
 
thanks for the encouragement guys! i hope you are all keeping well and less stress. it's all a numbers game from now on; it's just the fact that there are so many applicants that scare me. changes can happen so fast. Have you guys gotten any news from other schools of choice yet?
 
As of now there are like 329 people on the waitlist.. according to the guy that picks up the phone. Before that same guy told me where in the middle third I was, but now he doesn't say anything.

well they have 5 more interview days and assuming 25 interviews/day and 15-20 waitlist per day it can easily pass 400 spots!!!
 
that's an incredibly big number; i'm hoping that there are not 25 people per interview day. we also have to factor in that some people might decline the interviews due to other acceptances and such so it might not be as much as 25 per day. it could just be 10-15 and part of that will be sophmore interviews. let's all keep these posts active and comfort each other while we wait anxiously for may or june! working overtime really helps keep me not thinking so much.
 
Don't give up on Buffalo friend. My student host was in the bottom third and he wrote to them and it worked for him. he got accepted in june. so anything can happen; Buffalo is STILL in the picture.

The Sabres are going ALL! THE! WAYYYYYY!!!

So, when I interviewed in March, about half the people there were non-NY residents. How many of you are non-NY residents? Does being from NY improve the odds of you getting in off the waitlist, or is a level playing field once placed in purgatory. I won't call and ask where on the waitlist I am because I love suspense.

I'm out-of-state (home state:TX). I believe your final score already reflects your NY in-state residency status (they give you extra points for this in determining your final score). To my best knowledge, once you are assigned this final score, it never changes ie. if someone is in-state but has a lower overall score (thus lower on the waitlist rankings), that person cannot just suddenly climb over another out-of-state resident ranked higher on the list for an acceptance spot. You should go ahead and call to see where you are on the waitlist so that you can make the appropriate decisions during this application cycle. (That's what I would do anyways).
 
hey for those of us unsure of our status, now is a good time to look into post bac programs/second options. don't wait until last minute and we run out of options; that was what happened to me the first application cycle. there are schools who will accept us temporarily granted that we fulfill some of their requirements in the program. check them out on the aamc website!

BlueMirage is right, the final scores have NY resident status on it. we can only move up or down based on the forthcoming interviews.
 
hey guys, i re-read some of the threads and some people mentioned top third of middle third, etc...

every time i call (3 times already), they say I'm in the top third. Should I ask whether it's the top third of the middle or bottom to be safe?

Is top third=upper third? I'm getting weary for not prying deeper into status when i call. do they tell you guys "upper third" or just "top third" if you are in the top region of the list?

Any clarifications would be much appreciated guys.
 
dmcchung827, im pretty sure if they said the top third,then you are in the upper third, which means you will almost defiantly get an acceptance at some point. When I called before they said that they no longer tell you where in the 1/3 you are in. So congrats!!

C'mon man...didn't we already tell you to start celebrating over the weekend?? If you are in the top third (regardless of whether it is the top, middle or bottom part of the top third) you will be getting an acceptance by the end of May. If you do not believe me, do a search in the old Buffalo waitlist thread from 2006 from last year's entering class. They accepted all the way down to the bottom third (a few people that were in the bottom third posted on the thread, notifying readers of their acceptances). Stop over-worrying so much and live life a little before the madness in MS1 starts in August. Now for people like me that are below you we have more legitimate reasons to worry. Congrats man...now go party! I hope to see you in August for orientation🙂
 
Thanks guys. I've been rejected at so many schools (almost 50!) that it really ruined my self esteem. I'm feeling better with all your support. got an interview with Drexel next week. Hope to have all of you as classmates. Write to them!

since it's saturday i haven't called in yet, but i'm waitlist as well. i'm sure this isn't news, but they interviewed probably 25-28 people, and the dean reiterated that they're interviewing through may. are waitlists this big at other schools?? good luck to everyone.

I am only being told that I am in the middle thrid. Each time I ask, it has taken the person I ask about 65-70 seconds each time to tell me where I am on the list. I am guessing that this corresponds to how far down the list the guy has to scan. How long has it been taking for you guys? Especially if you know which part of the third you are in. I really am hoping I am not in the bottom of the middle thrid🙁

I think they have a slightly more advanced way of finding someone on a list...I'm sure they at least figured out ctrl + f
 
I called the other day to get an update on my list position from when I called in January and am still in the lower third. Boo.
 
i dont know about the correlation bw the time it takes to find one's name on the list and position on the list but that minute or so is way too anxiety ridden for me, =P.
 
how long does it take to get a decision from Buffalo? I interviewed yesterday and I'm a bit impatient.
 
okay okay, really impatient. But i really want to get in!!
