I know this particular course from this particular institution has been discussed several times in the past, but they all seem to be from the past before the current instructor took over (it's Placyk now).

Has anyone taken and finished this course under him? It would have been fairly recent as I've seen posts from 2016 by people who took it under a different professor. If you are out there, can you share with me your experiences and how you prepared for the final?

I have been trying to do well, but the lectures seriously don't cover much, and what they do talk about is pretty useless because they are either not enough to answer most of the questions or because many of the questions in the worksheets and the exams are from the text book.

But It's really hard to study from the book because he tackles the subject regionally while the book is based on system anatomy, so I really have to fly back and forth between three or four chapters just to study a small section. The majority of the exam questions so far (I have one more and then the final) are from such minute, specific sentences from the text book that the only way to really prepare is to really memorize ALL the tiny details in every sentence.

Did anyone actually do well in this course under this instructor? How did you prepare for the tests and the final? I have one more exam to save my grade, but the course is an automatic fail for those who get below 70% on the final exam alone...

Hello,

How did the course go for you? How did you prepare for the final? I feel the same way and I'm not sure how to prepare for the final.

Surely there's a better way to do this...
message one of the many upperclassmen you probably know who have taken this class or god forbid ask a TA or the instructor themself.

it's a stretch but gonna try to bring this alive again. I am currently taking this course and I feel the same as everyone who has commented upon this post. Any insight anyone who has taken the course?

I'm thinking about registering for this course.. did you get any information? There's not much on the UCB website

Haha nope. I’m currently towards the end but it’s quite dense so be prepared.
Dense indeed haha. How are you prepping for the final exam? I’m about halfway through the course and still struggling to find a pattern in what material he tests on for the quizzes.

secondary question: did you feel the quizzes and worksheet questions were represented on the midterm or was it all new?

Majority was multiple choice and matching. Some true and false. And I think I had 1 or two essay questions. (Don’t need to be answered as an essay, just that you have to type your answer)

Hi! I was wondering if you ended up taking the final yet? I'm planning on taking mine in 2 weeks and I'm pretty nervous due to having no guide on how to study. If you have taken the final could you share how your experience with it was and what you feel like the best study resource would be?

I'm in the same boat, and am feeling a bit overwhelmed with how to best study for the final exam. Have you taken the final exam yet? if so what do you think are best ways to prepare? Thanks so much!

Does anyone have any current tips to study for the final? I’m wondering how to best study for the final and what to expect for the final, with all the material I’m having a hard time keying in on exactly what to focus my final prep on... I’m finishing the last module and getting ready to schedule the final.

Thank you, so appreciated!!

For those who are thinking about registering for this course, I highly recommend Dr. Al-Khalili. She knows the subject well, and will go out of her way to help you out if you need it. The only issue with her is a bit of a language barrier, but its barely an issue.

I can't speak to Dr. Placyk's class specifically, but what really helped me in anatomy was:
a. knowing origins and insertions of muscles. Once you know this well, the movements become obvious
b. practicing important arterial and venous pathways in sequence over and over until they become muscle memory
c. using flashcards for the rest, eliminating the stuff I knew pretty well, and focusing on the flashcards I couldn't get the first few tries through

Anatomy can be stressful, but the rewards of studying are exponential; the better you understand one part of a body region, the easier it becomes to memorize the other components of the region. Its like memorizing city streets, you just have to take the car out often until you feel comfortable turning off Google Maps while you drive.

Hey there! Any insight into how much detail to get from the book vs how much big picture to understand? For example, with Chapter 1 there are quite a lot of diagrams on the nervous system with zero explanation in the book of a lot of the terms. Are these all supposed to commit to memory? The worksheet seems very superficial.
