Just a question. Does anybody know why Joseph Silva, dean of the school of medicine at UC davis, decided to step down? Will this affect our education at all?

He just wanted to return to his practice...

It will hardly affect our education. The Vice Dean (Dr. Wilkes) is the one who really is involved with education, not Dr. Silva.

Dr. Fitzgerald is somewhat of a legend around these parts. She is a practicing Internist and part of the Teaching faculty, and frequently gives talks about her chosen specialty, and the ins and outs of what goes on. As you said earlier, she is a Vice Dean for Education/Curricular Affairs.

She also gives Ethics talks every so often (at 8am, argghh) that are a part of the Problem-Based learning class we have, Application to Medical Principles. She's a very nice person, and is one of the student favorites of the faculty. If you come to Davis, you'll learn all about the "Woman in Black." 🙂

Thanks UCSBMEd! 😀

sounds fun...gets me excited.

On the interview trail for internal medicine residency I was asked about her on just about every single interview when they saw I was from Davis. She is very well known nationwide in the internal medicine community, and a kick in the pants to talk to or work with. Very memorable individual.
