Hello, I'm about to graduate with a business major from a great private university. I have decided that I want to go back to medicine as it is my calling (I started college as pre-med and switched). I have an overall GPA of 3.43 and a BCPM GPA of 2.95. My dream school is CU school of medicine. I am looking into doing a DIY post bacc at CU Denver to raise my GPA and finish my pre-reqs. Has anyone done this at CU? I know my bcpm gpa sucks but I honestly think I can bring it up significantly.

If you're about to graduate with a bcpm GPA of 2.95, even with a postbac, I think it will be very difficult to apply to any MD school period. The only schools i've heard of taking replacement grades for BCPM are in Texas, and otherwise you're looking at DO schools. If you are talking about taking enough additional upper division science classes to pad your BCPM GPA, it will take more than just a few 4.0's to move from a 2.95 to a 3.4+ if you want to approach MD sGPA levels.

As always, nothing is impossible, but your goal with your starting position is going to be quite difficult. I would highly recommend you keep DO schools on your radar along with CU Denver.

I'm hoping you have very few BCPM classes, otherwise bringing up that GPA is going to be tough. I looked into CU Denver but ended up taking all my premed classes at CSU (Fort Collins).

I would recommend CU Boulder over Denver. The faculty and the classes are far better based on comments I had heard from Denver students that transferred. I took Phys2, Ochem1 and 2, Biochem, Bio1, and Genetics at Boulder. Also, since you live in Denver, I would suggest you apply for the internship at the Denver County ME's Office. It is an amazing experience. You literally get to assist the techs and the medical examiners with autopsies.
