king drew is another story altogether...

but, uc irvine... i know someone who will be leaving for that program next year as a CA-1. i'm confident that this will be a good thing, ultimately, for the direction of that program. so, in a way, i'm glad this is happening for her sake. it may be a rough road at first, but the only thing that's constant is change. and this sounds like it will be a change for the good.

Another reason why the public hospital system does not work. They provide great training and good medical care, but they are money pits and financial travesties.

You heard it hear first, the two tiered system does not work. If you make all patients go to private facilities, the private facilities will find a way to make money.

Spend the state money on clinics.

Hmmmmmm......

Thats some pretty wise s h it, Cubs.

Made me think.

Well said.

What's happening at UCI Anesthesiology program is not an uncommon process/transition that you see at any other program from time to time. Every program will have, once in a while, a not-so-popular chairman for whatever reason, whether it be due to political, financial, or a "disgruntled former faculty member" reaching out to the press, that will cause the the chair to step down. Not to say that the chair is completely innocent from causing this to happen but from the article, it sounds like there is a lot of behind-the-scene politics that majorly influenced this outcome because numerous outside agencies couldn't substantiate any wrong-doing by the department after a thorough review.
As stated in the above post, only thing that is constant is change and I believe this transition will benefit the program in the long run. In the beginning, there will be many difficulties and time needed to adjust but hopefully with a new chair that everybody likes, who will lead the program in the right direction, things will turn out for the better. Whether the future of this program turns out to be uphill or down, at least one thing is for sure, and that is current situation is coming to an end. Problems will be addressed so that in the future, same mistakes will no longer be made. Most likely, UCI will learn from this experience to build a stronger program. So the way I see it, this program will only get better with time. Good for them to address this issue now, than to do it later after more damage may have been done.

As far as King/Drew is concerned, too bad for the program and the entire hospital. Although this was foreseen, it is actually pretty sad to see it happen. I hope all of the residents at King/Drew find other programs/alternatives without too much difficulties and wish them good luck.
