wait i'm a little confused... why in the world would you choose a cal state over a UC?

I applied to all the UC's and Cal Poly, SLO for undergrad, and I chose cal poly over every other UC school when I got in to them all for the location/people/classes, and I'm going to med school this August, and I'm so glad I chose the school I did...I think going to a UC does carry more weight, but it is very very possible to go to a cal state and receive a fantastic education and great preparation for med school. Like all these other wise folks said, it really just depends on what you make of it...You can get lots of feedback no matter where you choose to go...plus, there are lots of ways to get experience in your community that don't depend on where you're taking classes. 🙂 Sorry if this message was long, it was my first time! But good luck whatever you decide to do!

👍 'Poly Pride. 🙂

So where are ya headed?

I also chose Cal Poly SLO over a UC (Davis in this case). CSU's, cal poly in particular, revolve around undergrads. Almost all faculty research is open to undergrads, and profs are usually very welcoming when it comes to office hours. Cal Poly has UC-calibre students in a very small environment, which was what I was after. I think the top CSU's can give great educations and don't necessarily lack prestige.

Note- SDSU is also taking some students away from UC's these days, as their avg. gpa for 2005 freshmen was a 3.5. Not bad.
