My stats:

BCPM GPA: 2.91
AO GPA: 3.54
Total GPA: 3.24

I have research experience, clinical experience w/underserved , Public health internship, shadowing, and non medical work experience (25-37 hours a week) for almost 3 years.

I only applied to UCD and UCSF for proximity purposes and because they are my top choices. So I am very worried about my odds if everyone is starting to receive interview invites while my application is still pending. I did call them and they said that everything will be fine, but my concern is that UCSF will have chosen their 30 or so applicants for interviews by then. They have a very limited amount of space and unfortunately I don't think I will be very lucky in finding a loan for $10,000+ without a cosigner. UCSF has a lot of funding and so that is one very important reason why I want to get into their school.

Oh ok yea your stats sound good! That's frustrating about the application. It's getting a bit ridiculous! You have all of your materials in, right? Your just waiting for the consortium to upload them?

I didn't know they chose 30 people for interview, where did you hear that? Also do you know how big the cohort will be this year?

And that sucks about the loan situation- did you fill out your FAFSA? And are you sure you have exceeded the amount you can get for undergraduate ? I think UCSF is $16000 tuition?

Yeah, all of my stuff was submitted and delivered before the original deadline so it will still be considered. And I read that in a different forum on this same website for a previous year; however things may have changed. And I am not sure how many they are accepting now but I believe last year they accepted 13 people. As for my loans, I am certain that I reached my limit. And I have done my FAFSA just in case. So, I am sure everything will be fine but I cant help my self from worrying.

I know the Consortium is a little behind on uploading materials, but as long as they were in by the 3/23 deadline, they'll be sent out to the respective programs soon. I hope everything gets uploaded ASAP! UCSF offers funding for their program? Where did you hear about that?

Also do you know how big the cohort will be this year? I think UCSF is $16000 tuition?

The UCSF cohort is going to be 12 students this year. Do you know the size of the UCD & UCR cohorts?

The total cost of attendance for the UCSF program for 2015-2016 is $43,639 . Hopefully, it doesn't increase too much for this upcoming cycle.

They are a graduate program so they offer graduate level loans and they give you a stipend on top of that. I am not sure how much and I don't know any more than that, but I know that is true because they at least tell you on their website that they are considered a graduate program. Also I have seen a few people say that in this forum and previous forums. If you look up UC postbacc forum for SDN 2013-2015 you will find a lot of information.

I recall reading the previous years' threads and learning about the graduate loans, but I didn't know about the stipend. Thank you for sharing!

Hi all, does anyone know by which date they consider applications? Example, I submitted my application 2/25 and my application wasn't marked complete until 3/22 despite my last letter of recommendation being post marked on 3/3. Hopefully they look at it from the submission date.

Also, I'm feeling a little discouraged. A co-worker of mine told me that I don't count as a disadvantaged person because I am Asian (Vietnamese). Is this true?

If everything gets into the consortium office by 3/23/16, they'll consider it. Since your items were complete by 3/22/16, you should be fine.

Also, don't feel discouraged! Your coworker is categorically incorrect. Being Asian does not automatically mean you're not disadvantaged -- that's a prime example of the model minority myth. "Disadvantaged" typically means not having the resources (financial, educational, etc) that most others have, eg. growing up in a low income community with schools that have sub par curriculum/teachers, relying on government subsidies for rent or food stamps, compromised access to healthcare services ie. can't afford health insurance, etc. You can be Asian and come from a wealthy background (not disadvantaged) or Asian and come from a impoverished background (disadvantaged). You can also be
Caucasian and come from a wealthy background (not disadvantaged) or Caucasian and come from a impoverished background (disadvantaged). It's more often than not your circumstances as opposed to purely your race. I am Vietnamese as well and I am considered disadvantaged.

Hello everyone, I'm new to SDN and also applied to the UC Consortium this cycle!

According to the UC Consortium website, they are "designed to assist students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds."

I am also Vietnamese and want to echo what @smiliiees said about the model minority myth. As a Vietnamese person, you are considered a minority among the Asian community. I'm not quite sure if the Consortium groups all Asians together, but you also should consider if you're a 1st gen. college student, the school district you attended growing up, community conditions, etc. not just what you identify as culturally when determining your disadvantaged status.

Yes this is all true. I know an Alumni who is Vietnamese.

Update to everyone, I finished my UCI interview already! Fingers crossed. How long did it take those you who have interviewed to get notified of acceptance via mail? Or did they email you?

Thank you so much! I feel relieved that interview went smoothly, though I'm not sure if it would have been better having an in-person interview...did you have two interviewers? I was surprised I was emailed questions to preview before they called me on Skype.

Hi all!

I submitted my application on 3.22.16. I didn't realize it was rolling admissions. My application was reviewed today and I received an email that I had to delete one of the four letter writers and re-submit it. My application is still pending due to the letters of rec., I hope I still have a chance. Fingers crossed!

The same thing happened to me ! I had to delete one letter

I'm surprised that UC Irvine is still sending out interviews. Would you mind sharing your timeline, like when you submitted your materials and when it was marked complete?

Me too ! I submitted my application March 16th the first time. Then I received an email asking me to delete one of the four writers of my LOR. So I updated my application and submitted it on March 20th. Everything was complete by the 29th.

Do schools not receive your application, until it's marked complete?

Hey everyone, I just hopped on this thread. Congratulations to all of the people who have received interviews and to those who were accepted! That's incredible!

Is there anyone who submitted by the March 23rd deadline but still has a pending application? That is where I am currently and I have tried calling the office but they have not answered and their voicemail box is full, so it's really up in the air right now.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi, I also just jumped on this thread.
I submitted my application on the 22nd though my letters had been submitted weeks earlier. My last letter was updated on the 29th, which is also when my application was marked complete. I was worried to about the pending status, but the admissions officer I communicated with assured me that everything was fine as long as the letters were received by the 23rd. Don't worry about it too much. They are just very busy.

Just wondering if I am the only one constantly checking my email every 5 min 😎 even though I know they probably don't work on weekends. The wait is killing me. Congrats to all who got interviews and acceptance letters.

lol , me too ! You are deff not alone

Congrats to those who were accepted! Anyone still (im)patiently waiting to hear back from UCI, or am I the only one? My application was not completed until March 23rd, 2016. Also, has anyone heard of the CDU post-bacc program?

I applied last year and was accepted. I deferred it for this year. I honestly don't know much about it either, other than its affiliated with UCLA and it's a small private school located in Compton.

It seems pretty quiet today. Anyone heard any exciting news? I've been checking my inbox all day but ended up getting disappointed every time :/

Same here. Nothing on my end either 🙁 Based on the responses on this thread, it seems UCI reaches out to applicants on Tuesdays, though. Has anyone heard from UCD or UCR?

Oh I didn't notice that! I'm wondering if UCI is full since they are only accepting 8 and there are 6 spots left that we know of.

I always get anxious at the end of the day because then I know I have to wait until the next day again to hear anything. Lol.

Lol I know what you mean! I get especially anxious on Friday evenings because we have to wait the ENTIRE weekend--a little melodramatic, I know, but the silence is killing me!

Nothing on my end either. Application completed March 29th so I guess I'm not surprised. Starting to feel worried though.

I'm right there with you; my application finished on the 31st. On another note, which school is everyone coming from? I am finishing my last quarter at UC Davis

May I ask why you deferred for a year? I just receieved my acceptance letter from CDU today! Given that I am still waiting to hear back from UCI, I might go with CDU... Still, better than no post-bacc, amirite?

I am coming from the University of Saint Thomas in Minnesota!

Graduated from UCLA. Hoping to hear back from UCD :sorry:

Do you guys think UCI has already chosen their six? It's been really quiet lately.

Does anyone know when last interview invites are sent? Perhaps late April, early May?

Looking at the messages from 2014's cycle, the radio silence is common. Some applicants didn't interview until late April. Just got to keep waiting, y'all.

My application is on the way and as I am awaiting to hear back, I cant help but think that I can do most of the things this program offers on my own. I have a decent GPA, research, and medical experience. I have just not had time to take the MCAT thus I will not be able to apply for this cycle. I was advised that instead of waiting a year for the next cycle that I should just work on a masters or post-bac to be even more competitive. I do not mean to come off pretentious, I would just like to hear others reasoning for wanting to be in this program?
