hey,

Well since I am an international student, I am applying to the UCAS via net via the international apply 2004. However, under the "education" section, where I enter the degree I got from my college (International Baccalaureate in Bio.), it tells me to add a module. What is a module? Is that the subject that I got the degree in? What it also tells me is to select from the following:HL, SL,EE, and TOK--what in god names is this? And also, there is a place to put the grade, and i have to select from the following: Pass, 1-7, or Pending, again, what is this? And when i select the degree that i have, it tells me to put down my total score, is this my GPA?
I called UCAS, and they also have no idea! So, they told me to give them my email/phone and they will contact me later.

as you can see, i need major help!

thank you so much!!🙂

I will also try to help - it's not the easiest form to fill in, especially if you don't have UK A levels, which is what it's designed for!

First I need to clarify - when you say degree (your IB in Bio) from College - is this sixth form study (16-18 years) or undergraduate university level study? All the advice I'm giving assumes that the IB is sixth form study...

What you do where it says module is write down the individual components that make up your IB and the grades, if you have them. For instance, in my (modular) A level Biology I did Molecules & Cells, Genetics, Health Biology, Animal Studies and another module (which I can't remember the name of - it was obviously very important!). What you would write would be A level Biology Grade A, and then list the modules and put the grades assumnmg they're all good.

Alternatively, you can just write A level Biology Grade A and not put your modules at all.

What all this means for you may be a little more complicated! I always understood that you did the IB in several subjects (about 7?) This means that you should write down all the subjects you did (but don't bother with modules if you didn't study a modular course) and the grade you achieved (grade 1-7). The HL, SL etc thing I don't understand, but krevelli's explanation seems plausible.

If your IB is a university degree then you will need to put your final high shcool grades in first, and then put your degree in similar style...

The most important thing to remember is that UCAS don't really care what you put (except for computer coding purposes), but it does need to be clear what grades you got in what subjects and at what level to the person who is interviewing you/reading your form.

If the eform won't let you play with the various categories you might have to bite the bullet and get a paper form - but don't leave it too late!

Hope that was of some help - you can always ask more - it can't have changed that much since I applied (1999).

Good luck
😉

So what do i pick??

So what do i pick??

Ah, that's easy - none of the above! All those are your school leaving qualifications and below (with a few exotic variants). What you need to put here are your SATS score(s) (if you are US) or whatever your school leaving equivalent was. The best option almost certainly would be "Other" under the international section. If you get any quals at 16 then that needs to go on as well (the UK equivalents are GCSE at 16 years and GCE Advanced Level (A levels) at 18 years).

I can't remember, but there should be a section somewhere on the form for higher education qualifications, where there should be an option for BSc Biological Sciences which is the UK equivalent for your degree. For that I wouldn't list all your modules, but maybe ones you think are relevant to medicine. For degrees the form might not need modules though.

Clear as mud?!

Hope you're getting there
