This thread will centralize information for alternates and movement on the list of alternates for the UCD Class of 2008.

I am reposting general information for everyone:

I called Terri today and got my questions answered. This is what she said:

1. Alternate List = Wait List
2. There will be about 200 people on the alternate list.
3. The alternate list is ranked, but they will not give your exact rank.
4. They get about 1/3 of the way into the alternate list each year.
5. They are still processing the alternate list and it will not be finished until next week.

INFO from other sources:

1. Most of the movement on the alternate list occurs in late June/July.
2. They can't accept you after you have started medical school somewhere else.

I'm an alternate too. Thanks Ringo man for all of the info. I havent responded on a forum before but your posts are always very helpful. Just curious, if anyone k nows of any acceptances that were given out to interviews after April 1st?

Here are the stats for UCD from 2003:

Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled
Total: 3,635 366 194 96
In-state: 3,014 364 191 96

So here is my question, Terri said the alternate list is about 200 people.

So assuming that only interviewed candidates can be on the alternate list, that leaves 172 that could have been on the alternate list last year and that is if they didn't reject anyone they interviewed. I know some SDNers got rejected, so how can the alternate list be about 200 people? Any ideas?

Of course, we do not know when the above statistics were captured by US News. My guess is they are as of the last acceptance offered before the class was filled.

An attempt to answer the previous question posted by Adorible23:

This year the class was filled as of the 2nd week of June according to a contact made by another SDNer with Ed Degang. According to my analysis of when my file went before the commitee for 1st review, that would make the last acceptance offered directly to a student who interviewed 1st week of April. After that point, it seemed all candidates were put on hold and then subsequently waitlisted or rejected. So if you interviewed in April, you probably never had a chance at a straight acceptance.

Caveat: My analysis is built on a very wobbly house of cards, assumption on top of assumption. Any data points are welcome for clarification.

On an additional note. Whomever I spoke with in the admissions office said they are have exceptionally little movement this year. Then she basically said my chances are not good... 🙁

I find it so hard to believe that there are 200 people waiting for a seat at UCD... Doesn't that seem like a lot for a class of 93?

no, sorry I don't. I tried to find out by emailing Terri, and then in her reply she told me to call her. At least we know that the waitlist is moving! More reasons to keep our hopes up!

Thanks Ringo for breaking the silence, I wondered what happened to all my Davis buddies on this thread, whether everyone had given up hope or not. I know that they do accept all the way up till the first day of school, which is good news, but annoying at the same time.

Well there obviously hasnt been any movement for any of us. I'm not sure what Eunibo's final decision was, but also there are some people on other threads holding UCD spots but waiting for movement from UCSD or UCLA as their first choices, also another trying to decide between UCD and Cornell. So its sort of funny, its like we are all holding each others spots and if we all just gave up the spots we didnt really want, there'd be movement. But of course we are not going to do that, so all we can do for now is wait. In talks with Terri there hasnt been much new because, well, unless it is very good news, there's not much more she can say. From other threads though, it looks like everyone is moving slow, Stanford even started offering acceptances for next year's class to late interviewers who never had a chance for a spot. Hello peoples, this is my first time posting on the forums but I look at sdn compulsively. I wanted to let you all you davis waitlisters that the list is moving. I just got a call from terri this morning. I was so ecstactic especially since I was bout to ship off a lot of my things for a school in new york. Just to let you guys know, I interviewed at davis on the last day they were doing interviews and I was in the top third on the waitlist. Have hope guys and have faith. Good luck all!!

When asked what my chances of getting in sometime in the next 3 weeks, she said. "Little to none. "

It really depends on where you are on the list. I think the point is that people on the 2nd third have very little chance of getting in. Apprarently, I am on the border between the second and the first third.

Got word from UC Davis Thursday that they only really got down about rank 20-30 so far on the list. That is about 10-15% down the list. Seems kind of crappy that they made the list over 3 times the length they probably need.

Just to let you guys know, my cousin was offered a spot at UCD in the middle of last week, but they had originally told her she was in the middle third. She was accepted to UCSF before that, so I don't know if that had any impact. At any rate, there has been some movement lately!

That is interesting since they told me that the admissions committee NEVER EVER changes the order once it is set. They also told me that they haven't gotten into the second third yet. This kind of stuff makes law suits happen. It wouldn't be the first for UC Davis though:

Same here. Seems like UCD is struggling a bit to get their act together. I feel bad for them...but also I am critical about their lack of disclosure (Honesty) in the admissions process.
