Hey guys! As a Florida resident, I'm psyched to hear that the University of Central Florida is opening their first class for 2014. Has anyone heard of any other info regarding the opening of this school?

hate to kill your excitement, but that plan got shot down about two years ago. ucf is not opening a dental school at the moment.

they withdrew their proposition, after the UCF board approved it. the state shot it down. ucf is looking to bring up the issue again, but it's in a state of limbo. in my opinion it'll probably get shot down again bc there isn't much of a need for dentists in florida, especially since LECOM will be filling the ''void'' in under-served areas.

but then again, with the new dentistry fad...who knows..maybe it could happen?

I hope they change their minds. One can only wish 🙂

I hope they don't change their minds. With the number of schools opening up, it's only hurting dentistry by flooding the market. Plus, do you really want to be the guinea pig to a brand new program? I wouldn't.

+1. if it does open up, it's gonna be all sunshine and roses at first..but then when you graduate, you'll realize that the job market for dentists is saturated in a lot of areas

Don't know the area personally or professionally, (could check craigslist to find associate position salary) but I can only imagine as good as Miami, LA, and NYC.

.....or how about we don't open any more schools....
