This is kinda in general for those applying to UChicago. I'm from Chicago originally, so if anyone has any questions about the area or about the city as a whole, I'd be happy to answer them. I love the city personally, and I'm glad all you guys seem to like it too. So yeah, PM me or whatever if you have any questions because I love to pump up Chicago to people.
Ah, ok then. I was just wondering if you had any premeditated choices, but I guess not. I've already spent four years in the 'ville, so I know UVA well.
I'm also on hold for an interview at Pritzker, so I guess we're in similar positions. I'm just counting my blessings that they didn't reject me post-secondary yet like they've already done to so many applicants more qualified than myself.

Apparently the adcom meets twice a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and/or Thursdays. They probably don't make too many decisions at once. A guy who interviewed on the same day as me just heard back 2 days ago, and for me, nada so far

What sort of qualifications do applicants have that they are interviewing or putting on hold?
I got the following e-mail telling me I was complete and that 3 things could happen:
"1. Invite you to interview on the campus of the medical school; 2. Place your application on hold for a re-review at a later time in the admission process, or; 3. Elect not to pursue your application further. You will be notified of the Committee's decision by surface mail."
Aprrox. how long from e-mail date until you get the letter? I understand they make this decision pretty quickly. Any experiences? Are all of the envelopes skinny?

Univ of Chicago has always puzzled me in terms of who they decide to interview, reject, or put on hold...but I think they do emphasize a lot on research experience, and interest outside clinical care (Health policy, education, research, etc.)

I would go there, pending i didn't get other excellent schools. I live in chicago, and work there. so, that's a bias.
If you are NOT into research, or want to go into a primary care specialty, then I would warn you against attending pritzker.

Pritzker has a fairly traditional curriculum with long lecture hours. Also, the focus is on training your thinking skills in science. This is a bit different from Northwestern, which focuses more on practicing clinical skills and "doing" stuff.
I got waitlisted at Pritzker. I think my waitlist letter got lost in the mail, but the decision was already made on Nov 7. I had to call the school's secretary to find out today 🙁

will attending uchicago be that detrimental to pursuing a primary care specialty? i LOVED uchicago when i visited and although i am interested in primary care, i am still seriously considering uchicago... any input would be awesome. t hanks!

What did u like about Chicago? I personally loved their organ-based approach the the curriculum.
the energy of the school. the happy students. definitely the P/F curriculum (why spend the extra 3 hours getting a few more poitns when you can help out hte community?). the wonderful opportunities to get involved in free health clinics,e tc... i think what it came down to was looking at teh students and seeing how normal they were. how they worked hard, but they had a good time, cared about each other, etc... plus, great research opportunities if i decide to pursue them. have you been accepted yet jc? what other schools are you looking at?
I think location is pretty important to me, so it's likely I'll choose Pritzker over Vanderbilt (Hehe I can say that in public cause I get accepted...if I were waiting for Vanderbilt's decision, I wouldn't say it out loud). Plus I prefer a colder place like NYC or Chicago.

Both my student host and my student interviewer said that the school is "supportive" of research, but by no means force you to go for it. However, one thing they do emphasize is "Thinking skills in medicine", as in problem solving skills in clinical setting etc. They also like to train people to do more than clinical care, i.e. health policy, health education, health management, research, etc.
I don't think it's detrimental for primary-care oriented people because Pritzker does have a very good training hospital with a huge minority population (60% African American or something)
