Hi guys!

So I had finished biology lecture requirement at my original school. However, since I cannot take the biology lab premed requirement at my school due to time constraint, I was thinking of completing this lab requirement at UCI over the summer.

I called the premedical office at UCI for help and the first person told me that any of the bio lab would fulfill this requirement. I decided to take 118L microbiology over the summer. However, I just recently finished the class and called them back to make sure this was ok and now they're telling me I have to take 100L to fulfill this requirement? So now I am confuse?

Any help or advice please?

Thanks!!!

Wait, so you already finished the lab? First of all, you can take any lab at UCI as 1/3 of the year of bio labs you need for your premed requirement. Second, it is a well known fact that UCI does not check prereqs during the Summer so I don't think they'll hold you back if you didn't already take it. If you take 3 labs at UCI, it satisfies the year of Bio labs, regardless of if you took Bio 100lw or not. I don't even think Bio 100lw counts as a lab for medical school purposes, even though it had both lab and lecture components. If they didn't stop you from taking the lab in the first place, then you're in the clear for not taking 100lw, but you wouldn't be able to take one during the year without it. I hope that all makes sense.

So I already took the microbiology lab over the summer without the prerequisite of 100lw. But I still have to take two more summer lab courses to fulfill the bio lab pre-requisite? Do you think it will be ok if I can substitute the other 2/3 of the requirement with a semester worth of biology research that involved techniques involved in a biology lab? Or should I just try taking two more lab classes at UCI?

I'm just not sure how stringent med schools are on fulfilling the requirement for these premed classes ><

Thanks!

I would go with 2 more labs at UCI. I have 2 years of lab research in addition to a year of labs plus 100lw, but I wouldn't count on that to be sufficient for the pre-med bio lab requirements.
